I was accepted into CAS ED1. As I’ve pored through the majors and requirements, I’m beginning to lean towards an intra-university transfer to Peabody and HOD. I know I can’t do this until after my freshman year. With that said, I contacted people at Vanderbilt to ask questions regarding course selections and they were either tremendously vague or simply not helpful.
I was told by a current student that they were not all that helpful to her when she was transferring to the engineering school… Anyway, I’m basically looking for suggestions on course selection my freshman year in A&S. I know a writing course is key because it will cover both schools (in the event I do decide to remain), but are there courses I can take that would help me move towards my HOD major and not have me a year behind? Can I take the HOD intro courses, or are they only available to Peabody students?
Thx!
You should be assigned to an academic counselor and you can ask questions to him or her. I am not sure why that student was confused. My D who is a CS premed actually talks to both her Engineering counselor as well as her premed counselor at regular basis. The school probably will set something up close to May or June for a webex about course selections, at least they did that with D’s class.
In other words, hang tight. Most of your incoming class are still not sure about their admissions or whether they will come or not. Enjoy your senior year and know there are a lot of resources at Vandy and it is very easy to change major or double major.
Best of luck and Anchor Down!
Look up the Peabody undergrad handbook and look up the classes required for an HOD major. These include writing, lab science, humanities, and social science. Try to take as many of these requirements b/c you cannot really transfer until halfway through second semester. However, you will be allowed to take HOD classes second semester
