intro chem ques...

i was looking at some frosh schedules and i see that u can take either
Introductory Chemistry (207, or 215)
for the fall term....

how do u no which u qualify for? whats the difference btwn the 2? thanks

207-208 is the standard chemistry sequence for bio/premed majors. I would venture that 90-95% of premeds take that class. Chemistry 215-216 is the honors version of that class. It is the most difficult chemistry class you are allowed to take as a freshman. I would only recommend this latter sequence if you are a chemistry major. 215 is not that difficult but 216 is ridiculously hard and will introduce concepts that you probably did not see in your Chem AP class (this includes using calculus to derive the coefficients of wavefunctions, transition metal complexes, SALC's-Symmetry Adapted Linear Combinations, symmetry elements, memorizing the relative energies of the first 15 or so MO's, etc.).

I took 215-216 because I could (I had a 5 on the Chem AP test). Since coming to Cornell, I've learned to just take the classes that I have to. As a premed, you don't receive style points for taking super difficult classes.

Oh yea, you'll have to do lots of titrations in the second semester with sketchy pH meters.

i guess i will take chem 207 then,...thx a lot norcalguy!

If Professor chirik teaches chem 207 next semester then chem 207 will be your best class!
