What is the difference between General Chemistry and Honors Chemistry?
Specifically:
1) Number of people/freshman in the course/lab.
2) Workload
3) Grading
4) Tests/Quizzes/Assignments in each course
5) Overall experience/Why you should take one over the other.

I won't go into the specifics but you should take 207-208 if you are premed (95% of the premeds take that class). You should take 215-216 if you are a chem major and have a good chem/math background. 215 is pretty easy. The topics covered are similar to your AP chem class. 216 is pretty difficult and covers topics not typically seen in AP chem (using calculus to derive and normalize wave functions, memorizing the first 12 MO orbitals and how they shift, quantum mechanics, transition metal complexes, etc.). Most of the people in the class are chem majors. Some are premeds but like I said, most premeds take Chem 207-208.

Overall experience was negative. Chem 216 was the only B I received in my freshman year. As a premed, I should've taken 207-208 for the easy A.

Any more details?

norcalguy, what college/major are you? Did you take AP Chemistry? What was the major of most people in Chemistry 215?

Most of the students in Chem 215 are chemistry majors.

I'm a bio major/premed. A's both semesters in Chem AP and a 5 on the AP test.

As I have said, almost everyone in 215-216 is a chem major. Cornell's course guide even implies that the sequence is for chem majors. I knew most premeds took 207-208 but wanted to "take the most difficult class available" which is not necessarily good for your GPA. It is also difficult and generally frowned upon to take Chem 215 and then drop down to 208 for the second semester. I tried to do so but was rejected.

norcalguy or biophilic, when you took that class did you know anyone there that did not have ap chem? How hard was it for them, or did they just not allow people with ap chem into the class?

john, i did not take chem 215!
I took chem 207 and i think chem 207-208 was the best course i have taken so far! You can't enjoy any class more than chem 207 with professor chirik. Whether you get a grade of A or C, you will still enjoy chem 207 with professor chirik.
By the way almost all of my friends in chem 207 had already taken AP chem and had done well in AP Exam.

I certainly would NOT take 215-216 without a 5 on the AP test muchless not having taken the AP class at all. 207-208 would be better for you or perhaps an even lower level chem class.

I really don't know how many people in Chem 215 took AP chem. It was kinda implied that if you were in the class, you took the test and did well.

How many people typically sign up for Chemistry 207 and how many sign up for Chemistry 215? Is this information officially available anywhere (online or offline)?

Last year 1200 students signed up for chem 207 for which 100 dropped out after the first prelim and 100 signed up for chem 215. You can find this information here:

How do you know how many dropped out? Do you know how many sections/lectures are offered for each class?

I know how many dropped because i took chem 207 last year and that is what professor chirik told us after the first prelim.
In order to find how many sections/lectures are offered for each class, you have to see the course rooster which you can find on cornell website.
