Introspective, self-critical topics okay?

My CommonApp main essay, without going into too much detail, involves my initial struggle to balance my positions of leadership in various activities (I focused on being a student leader in my youth group in particular). Initially, I have failed to devote the necessary time to said youth group, and a particular experience there prompts me to "step up my game," so to speak. I end on a positive note mentioning how balancing the activities is now a strength of mine. It's a narrative.

Obviously it's not the most positive essay in the world despite its ending on a positive note, but it's truthful and honest and important to me, which seems to be the sort of essay I'm looking for. Ideally it also shows personal growth and maturity. I was just wondering if you guys had any thoughts about such a self-critical topic.

I like some self-criticism, so long as the essay is bottom-line positive. Self-criticism enhances credibility, makes the writer seem authentic, human, approachable imo.

introspective essays are good as they show you are aware of your weaknesses and limitations. Important to end on a positive note as it shows that you have learnt from your mistakes. Overall would show that you are the kind of person who is self aware and takes positive steps to correct mistakes...will give a good impression.

Thank you both for your responses.
