We received an email today stating the following:
"As faculty and staff from U.C. Berkeley’s Coalition for Excellence
and Diversity in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, we are very
excited that you have applied for admission to Berkeley. Although
admission decisions have NOT yet been made (and we have no connection
with the admissions office) we want to give you a closer look at what
Berkeley can offer its students in mathematics, science, and
engineering.

The invitation is for southern california lax area on march 17. they say decisions are not made till March 29th. Now does anyone have nay idea if this is a hint? should we go–could this better her chances on getting in, or are there any chance we may know before this meeting?

they said they "have no connection with the admissions office." So...no they won't give you any "hint" about anything; nor would it better her chances at getting in. I think the email made it pretty clear that they have no connection whatsoever to admission decisions; I wouldn't go unless you simply want to learn more about Berkeley's "mathematics, science, and engineering."

I was invited to attend last year and thought it was a worthwhile event. It is a great program at Cal, and if admitted and you decide to attend Cal, I encourage you to participate in this program.
