When invited, do they upload their letter of recommendation? If so, what is the purpose of the Teacher/Counselor Reports (do they fill those out online too, or do I have to print them out)?

Our school counselors refuse to upload online, so do I just provide them addresses?

Thanks!

If they do them online, then they can just upload it online. My teachers do that but my school counselors want to send the letters with mail which is why you have the option to print the forms. You just give the counselor an envelope with stamps and address of the undergrad admissions office and the correct forms.

Thanks for the info. But when teachers upload the recs, do they have the option to fill out the Teacher Report too, or do I have to print that out?

For the Common App process, your teacher should complete a Common App Teacher Evaluation form. It asks some basic questions and asks them to attach their letter of recommendation. If they do the form online, they can upload their letter just like you upload your personal essay in the online application.

Keep in mind that if your teachers or counselor submit their forms online for you, you MUST submit the Common App Online in order for the colleges to receive the school forms.

MacGyver,

It shows that my teacher already submitted something on my app. Does that mean the letter was submitted only, and that I have to print out the teacher evaluation? Or was he given the chance to fill the TE out when he was submitting the letter?

hey… how can you invite teacher and counselor on Common App. website??

Please help Thanks

theReach,

If the Common App shows that your teacher submitted ‘something’ then that something is the Common App Teacher Evaluation. That form includes the letter of recommendation as well as some other basic evaluation info. If your teacher has submitted that, then he or she has done everything they needed to do.

SAT2350 - Here’s what you need to do:
You need to be a first-year applicant. If you are a transfer, you don’t invite your teachers. You just print out the forms and they get mailed to your colleges.

Go to the ‘Common Questions for Applicants’ page. Read it. All. And watch the movie. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll be enlightened about how the Common App works. Find enlightenment here: https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/FAQ.aspx

Fill in your high school information on the Academics section of the online application.

Go to the School Forms page. Read the instructions.

4a. If you high school is configured to submit school forms via Naviance (the instructions will tell you if this is the case) then you need to talk to your counselor and teachers and they will submit the forms electronically via Naviance. You won’t be able to invite your teachers from the Common App Online.

4b. If you high school does not use Naviance, you’ll see instructions telling you how to invite your teachers and counselor.

Still confused? Take a deep breath and re-read the instructions. Everything you need to get started is there. Search CC as a last resort. There’s a lot of information in these forums, but it’s not all correct or easy to understand.

Good luck!

This thread just SAVED MY LIFE. My school just started to use Naviance. NONE of the counselors know that teachers recs go through Naviance. I was scared that I would have to send my apps through snail mail. /phew
