Is a 1550/17 sat score good enough for ivy schools? 1550 is strong, but will a 17 (6/5/6) essay score hurt my chances significantly? I am only a junior, so I still have plenty of time.
No, it is not worth retaking. A 1550 is a great score. Most colleges have eliminated the “with essay” requirement from SAT/ACT, and you’re better off showing stellar wring on your application essays than trying to gain a couple points on the SAT essay score.
Have you looked at the Ivy 75th percentiles? You need to be the sort who can pursue this info on your own, when thinking top tier. While at it, see what they say about essay scores. And the rest of what matters. You’ve got to be the sort who can inform yourself. That matters to any tippy top. That resourcefulness. That level of thinking, energy, and follow-through.
