Is 17 units doable?

Thank you everyone for your responses, and I listened to all the output you guys had to say to me. I really appreciated the advice that was given to me.
For all of those who do not know, I plan on TAGing to UC Davis for the International Relations major.
I have decided on this schedule.

Summer 2015
English-1A: College Composition and Reading (4 units)
Math-10: Elementary Statistics (3 units)
Total = 7 units

Fall 2015:
English-13: Critical Reasoning and Writing - Philosophy (3 units)
Elementary French 1 (5 units)
History-4B: History of Civilization (3 units)
Introduction to Microeconomics (3 units)
Total = 14 units

As for AP Classes, I did not pass my AP tests; but I managed to pass all of the AP courses that I took in high school with A’s. I have taken: AP Biology, AP Statistics, AP Language and Composition, and AP US History. My strong suit is anything but mathematics, which I am only taking Statistics and have a background from my AP class.
I have taken French for two years in high school, and I enjoy history and economics greatly as well as writing. I cannot take my foreign language at at a later time, because I am required to take French I, II, III, and IV at the CC. :slight_smile:

With my schedule, I will be done with my major prerequisites after the Spring 2015 semester, and I just have to focus on completion of IGETC the next year.

Looks good @kittyucd

That sounds perfect.

@kittyucd However, if you had two years of french in HS why are you taking french 1?

As long as the last course was a C- you passed two years of HS french. That’s not true that you have to take at a CCC. You have fulfilled the IGETC req. All you need to do is show transcript to your CCC advisor to get it signed off.

If you need more for your major, you would start at the level right above your two years in HS. Sometimes certain majors want the equiv of two years HS language, plus one college semester of another language, which may be the Intl relations req.

Agreed, it’s also good that you’re going to finish your Math and English requirements early. Good luck! @kittyucd

@lindyk8 My French is not the best, and I feel like I should brush up on my skills by taking the beginning classes. :slight_smile: It’s been about a year or so since I have taken French.

ah, I see. Well, I just wanted to make sure you know.

@fullload Yeah it was a little over calculated. I attended two colleges full-time though. SMC and El Camino College. i In Spring 2014, I took 12 units at SMC and 16 at ECC, worked two jobs (around 30hrs per week) and volunteered (15 per week). In Fall 2014, I took 17 units at SMC and 12 units at ECC, worked two jobs (30 hrs per week), RA (8hrs per week), intern (16 per week), and volunteer(8 per week).

Honestly if this is your first semester of college, I’d highly suggest taking it slow. This is my first year and during my first semester even 14 units was difficult for me and this is coming from someone who was ranked top 10 in high school. But at the same time it does depend on your discipline. I’m just saying, you don’t want to overdue it and end up retaking classes like I currently am!
