Is 18 units too much?

Hello! I got accepted to into the graphic design BFA program and I was looking at my 4 year roadmap and it said that I should take 18 units for my first semester. I know most students take 12 units a semester so I was wondering would 18 units be too much to handle and would it be better if I took 15 units during the fall and 3 units during winter break so I don’t over work myself. The 18 units I plan are taking are

Computer Art
2 dimensional art
Drawing
Composition II
Art history I
Mathematical Ideas

I feel like I would be able to handle the work load since most of my classes are art classes and I think I spend most of my time working on the projects in class and according to rate my professor, all the classes that I plan on taking are supposed to be taught by easy going teachers. But I could be could be wrong and the work load I have might be too much. I’m really not sure how I should go about this

Thank you for reading!

15 semester units is the typical load. 18 may be a lot your first semester - especially if you are away from home for the first time. You’ve got a lot to figure out outside the classroom. The courses listed above suggest a lot of project time - meaning, you’d be really busy.

I think you’ll be happier with 5 classes. Go ahead and sign up for all 6 if they will let you, and drop one after attending for a week or so.
