I am currently a sophomore in High School in all honors classes however I haven’t taken an AP class yet.I do well in my honors class, but I am worried that APs will be a drastic change and don’t want to my grades to fall.Next year I plan on taking 4 APs. Do you guys think this is too big of a jump or is it manageable. My gpa is around a 4.3. I also am class treasurer and play volleyball, and am involved in 2 other clubs after school. Am i stretching myself to thin?
Next year I am planning on taking:
AP World History
AP English
AP Chemistry
AP Capstone
I would really appreciate your input!! Thanks so much!
It depends. How many honors courses are you currently in, and do you struggle in any? How do you do with time management? AP chem at my son’s school is very time consuming. (They do not have AP Capstone so cannot comment on it.) A;so, what math and foreign language class will you be taking next year? Maybe think about how well you do in your honor’s classes compared to others. Are you near the top of the class? The middle? If at the top of most/all, you may be ready for 4. It also may be helpful to ask around about the teachers in the AP courses. It can make a big difference. Good luck!
It also matters a lot how the course is taught in your school- you should be able to ask current students, your curretn teachers & your GC. I have seen one AP chem teacher swamp students with really long problem sets, and another prepare the students just as well with much shorter problem sets.
I’d say no. 2 or 3 might be, but 4 no. Those classes are all rather time consuming and it’ll be hard to adjust to the ap standards and curriculum.
