Right, so I registered about 2 days before the exam, and I got my scores back. I didn’t prep for it at all, because I really have no clue on how to prep for an English test.
Reading-29/30
Writing-28/30
Speaking-27/30
Listening-24/30.
Yeah, I know, my listening score isn’t good, but frankly, that section was really boring, so I didn’t pay attention. Ideally, I’d be happy with this score, but is it good enough? I’m interested in applying to SUNY Buffalo/Stony Brook, Clark, Cornell, Princeton, Iowa State, MIT etc. etc.
I’d really prefer not to give it again, because $170 is a lot of money.
108 is fine, even for the top schools. Honestly, as long as you pass the required minimum/average, which is usually about 100 at the top schools, with UChicago’s 104 minimum being the highest I know of, noone cares. So basically, concentrate on SAT and SAT 2 prep, and good luck!
@ANerdfighter Thank you!
I kind of wondered if this was a humblebrag, but… okay: You need 100. You have more than 100. Once the school sees you have 100 or more, they look at other parts of your application. The TOEFL is not used to evaluate your application, it’s just the cutoff to chuck a bunch of applications right off the bat. Once you meet their threshold, whether you got 104 or 112 doesn’t matter at all.
For college admission purpose, your score is good enough.
You must be genius to get 108 without prepping. I had a decent TOEFL score but it took me some time to prepare myself.
The TOEFL is just to measure how well you can speak, listen, and write English. The top schools require at least 100+.
@MYOS1634 Sorry if it sounded like bragging, but I had to confirm it here. I checked the University of Rochester’s page the other day, and they list the individual minimum as 25 for listening. Since mine is 24, I wanted to see if it’s competitive elsewhere.
@coolweather Thanks! Not really, I really saw nothing challenging about the TOEFL, so I didn’t prep for it anyway. Overconfidence I guess, but I don’t really regret it.
@Jr12317 Thanks!
