I did my toefl in march unprepared with the following stats.
reading: 28/30
listening: 27/30
speaking: 22/30
writing: 28/30
total: 105/120
I'm planning to retake it in june.
How much should i score in order to get into top schools in Canada or US?

I could be wrong but I don’t think schools here care that much about TOEFL scores. There’s much more weight on SAT’s in the states and in Canada, all schools are public so school grades are most important (IB or AP help alot). My opinion is that schools look at TOEFL mainly to see that you have proficient mastery of the language to study there and not as a comparison of your ability (unless you want to major in English).

PS - feel free to ask me if you need any help with the admissions process. Send me a pm and I’ll reply as soon as possible.

105 is more than enough.

105 is quite enough for most excellent colleges. But I don’t know if the ivies care more about the score since the applicant pool is so competitive.

To be honest, not decent enough, especially your speaking section went poorly. But you shall be qualified for most of the schools. (but not for Uchicago for example, it needs all section above 26 to give you I-20)

check with the school you want to apply to. As long as you meet their minimum (some have minimums for each subsection) then you are fine. I think as others have said, Toefl is only used to determine whether you are eligible to attend the school. If you want to be more competitive, spend more time with SAT

105 is so enough.
actually, 100+ is enough for all schools.

thanks guys
but i;m just wondering does it look bad because my speaking mark is so much lower than the others… coz it’s like ~20% below other marks…

Toefl actually doesn’t have much influence on admission decision.

But I suggest you look carefully on the requirement of your school on each section. Some school requested speaking score over 23, some even reached 26

enough!
just above the school’s minimum and you are good to go!

good enough for every top 10 school in US. TOEFL is not that important as SATs. Try to concentrate on your SATs. Trust me, a 2200 on SAT I is much more helpful than 110 on TOEFL test in the application process. You see I got 103 on my TOEFL test but I still got into top 10 schools. What matter are your application essays, not your scores. Bear that in mind.

sort of decent…not very strong

Quite enough , how about your sat1 score? I think the sat cr is more important~

The SATs are waaay more important than the TOEFL.

i’ve seen people get 119 in toefl ,but still never made it to any uni in north america ,tragedy …

ukimlee, those people probably applied to very very tough schools

…good work, it’s enough
