I took my first SAT in January, and my scores were as follows:

640 math
640 CR
740 writing, and 11 on the essay

= 2020.

I'm obviously not talking CC standards, where everyone is in the 99th percentile and debating retaking 2370's (no offense haha, those are great scores), but I mean as far as the rest of the world. what's your opinion on my scores? it's obviously not harvard material, but what about Boston College, Boston U, UNC, etc.?

Sorry for the rather trite and open question, but like I said this is my first SAT and am not sure what to make of my scores.

don't worry about it, i got a 2050, and i'm freaking ecstatic. At school today i felt great talking about my scores, but when i got on here, I felt dumb.

Just don't worry about it.

BC: unsure, they have like 5% admission
BU: IN
UNC: i think you have it with a good GPA

i didn't necessarily specifically mean BC, BU and UNC per se, but rather i'm familiar with the caliber of those schools and can somewhat begin to apply my score to the possibilities of admission at any of those schools (or ones of similar caliber)...i hope that makes sense!

thanks a lot for the replies, i'd love to hear more thoughts if anyone has any!

ahh i got a 2020 too (:
except it's not that high for the kids at my school :(
but oh well. i don't wanna take the sats again;i think i'll start studying for those acts...

You just made me feel so much better "determined".
I got a 1820 and I wasn't feeling so thrilled about it (compared to everyone else here).
I'm aiming for a 2000+ next time.

Same site, student section, has a useful "how I stack up" feature, but it compares stats only, and not the stuff of "holistic' or "comprehensive reviews"

The way I'm looking at it, it's not b/c the writing doesn't have a huge impact. Above a 650 looks good, so I'm going to say no, a 1280 is not solid, definitely get it above 1300 or take the ACT, which I did and got the 1400 equivalent.

Does the writing really have as little an impact as RahoulVA suggests? I thought that as long as my composite score of 2020 was good, that was the end of it. Does it really matter where that 2020 came from(i.e. CR, writing or math)?
