Is a 230 PSAT High enough for Semifinalists

<p>I've been able to consistently score around 230 on PSAT practice tests, i'm from illinois, no you think a 230 would be enough to qualify me as a semifinalist?</p>

<p>I should have qualified because I got 220 but then I put on my sheet that I wasn’t seeking citizenship immediately, because my government doesn’t allow me to pursue dual citizenship (I lose the citizenship of my birth country) … it doesn’t make me any less loyal, just that I want the ability to live in both countries!</p>

<p>1- You’re counting your chickens before they hatch.
2- The cut-off varies by state and no, it’s never that high.
3- There are threads that show the “official” cut-off by state.
4- You’ll need to validate that score with comparable scores in the SAT/ACT, so
5- Since you are counting your chickens already, better start practicing for those tests.</p>

<p>and by the way, the state cutoff was something like 224, so a 230 would be just cutting it, especially if the real test is a little lower than that. It was a legitimate question.</p>

<p>No problem. If you look at the last page it looks like the IL cutoff is 213. People posted their scores when they received notification and it looks like the first one was 224 but subsequent posters still got NM with lower scores. It might vary a little from year to year. But you ought to be in good shape if you’re consistently getting 230.</p>

I think you should double check-- I thought the National Merit was not available for internationals.</p>
