For premed which major will get a higher gpa?

biochemistry /thread

Bio (10 char)

I can’t find the biochemistry thread

^ That’s not what kaekae meant. “/ thread” means that this thread should end because the question has been answered. Whether this is true is doubtful.

Answered where?

sweet48 - this is just not an answerable question. WHich biology major, which chemistry major, which school? Add in that different people will find different majors easier or harder. Add in that you should not choose your major based on what you think your gpa might be.
If you are pre-med, bio or chem are solid choices for your major, but so are other options, as long as you get in the standard pre-med courses.

I’ll advice you to choose the one you are good at,like someone said different pple are good at different majors and so you should choose the one you good at…

If you ever going to ask this question again, you probably won’t end up in medical field.
They are both difficult.
This kind of question is not worth asking at all.

Pre-med program is NOT available in every college.
Most people that called themselves “pre-med” students are not necessarily people who are in “pre-medical” program. Instead, they are either biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. Among the three majors, biochem is more likely people who want to go on to medical school.

It’s just a trend. Some may disagree. But biochem leads to better preparation for MCAT exams and medical school.

To backup what jwxie said with data, look at this table: http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantmatriculant/table18-facts09mcatgpabymaj1-web.pdf

Biological sciences are the largest feeder but other majors perform just as well or better than them; look at those humanities majors’ numbers! What’s really interesting is that, at least in 2009, 50% of all applicants were accepted to medical school, both total applicants and by major (except unspecified majors).

I’ve been told before that all the biomedical sciences are a Ponzi scheme and similar to FARC. Stateside in particular, where they’re all leeching off a Medicare-financed pyramid scheme. Biology degrees have the lowest average salary amongst all BS degrees. Avoid them if you value your youth, money, and wellbeing and instead, go into engineering chemistry, or finance. It’ll be a better use of your time, you just need a BS, and the payoff is better in the long run, especially finance. Why waste 200K USD for a medical degree over 10 years when you can make millions as an investment banker with a BS in math? And if you’re not going to medical school with a BS in Biology you’re just going to end up as a lab drone doing PCR or Gel Elecrophoresis over and over again.

Drakemom: Took the words out of my mouth. Thank you. Though to be accurate, you won’t be a lab drone doing PCR or Gel Elecrophoresis over and over again.

You’d also be washing glassware.

lol Drakemom read various LastThreeYears’ posts and posted a summary there.
