I've heard a couple of people say to beware writing personal statements about sports experiences. I'm writing one about perseverance and goal-setting, and I think I've done a good job of steering away from cliches and pretentious rhetoric, but is this a bad idea? One particular sport is a very meaningful part of my life and I think I can write best about it (of course I'll write other essays on different topics). By the way I'm applying to some of the most competitive and selective schools. Thanks for your input.

no, it's not a bad idea especially if it represents your life the most.

Sports essays tend to be VERY cliche. But if you feel that your essay is unique and important to u, go for it!
