Everything I've read has said not to speak about sports in college application essays, but I feel like I have a good story with mine?
I'm part of one of the smallest sports in the USA, and I am at the top of it and nationally recognized for that...
About 2,000 high school age kids compete in my sport, and about 100 of them on a regular basis (it's like a thing that people try once then never do it again)
Considering there's only a handful of people who might have similar experiences, I have a feeling that my essay would be original and one of a kind (that sounded quite conceited)
Would that be okay?
I chose the common app essay asking where I was most content and so I write about my experience s of being both a runner and a walker and why it makes me happy.

It’s discouraged because it’s been overdone. Can you write about it? Yes, so long as it’s neither trite nor predictable.

I agree with what @skieurope has mentioned above. Sports as a topic for your essay may not be the best idea as it is very clichéd. But if you think that you can pull it off, its okay.

If you are going to write about the “big game” or how you overcame adversity to rise to the top of your sport, then don’t do it.

Write about some other interesting aspect of your sport. Sounds like it is an uncommon sport, so teach the AdCom readers more about it, while at the same time showing off your writing skills.

I agree with @sgopal2. You can write about sports, but unless there’s a special circumstance, stay away from writing about “clutch” or “comeback” moments.
