Can someone tell me what is typically done and those of you who have been accepted to Vandy did you go for an interview?

There are no interviews.

If a student requests an interview and comes to Nashville will they not allow it? Won't it put the student at an advantage if they can somehow get themselves to be interviewed even though it is not customarily done?

No one I know that got accepted (including myself) did any kind of interview.

matthew, are you a freshman here at vandy?

No, he is not. He is a resident of the Nashville area and was accepted to Vandy. At least, I think so.

Correct, I was accepted to Vandy for the 2004-2005 year (would be my second year if I had went there). Because I lived in Nashville, I have several friends who went to Vanderbilt.

Matt, which high school you went to? Mine's MLK.

cool, I went to John Overton.

Overton..ah...cool

Boxcar,

I think in the future an onsite or hometown interview may be an optional part of the application process. There seems to be rumblings of the early stages of establishing this for large cities across the U.S. like NYC, Chicago, STL, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Orlando, Miami, L.A., etc. Probably will be by alumni.

Today, there is no interview except if you are applying to Blair School of Music, and then an interview is mandatory, even if it is called an audition.

If, when you visit campus you wanted to talk to administration people, they'd be happy to meet with you and would make the time. If you feel like you want to make an impression personally, I would recommend you do it.

Thanks VUAlum - I have a question maybe you have an answer for me. Last fall my son went to the Open House for Vandy at a local hotel, met the regional admissions person and has been in touch with her a couple of times by email. Do you think it is important to attend the Open House again this year as a senior? Will doing so really make a point this is his first choice? Son wants to do everything he can to position himeself for admission to Vandy.

Boxcar,
I would go.
