If we were to postmark something by tommorow, what does that mean? Can it be post-marked at any time during the day, or does it have to be before mail goes out? Can we post-mark on the 1st or is everything closed

The 1st is Sunday. I think American post offices are closed Sundays, anyway?

everything will probably be closed, it'll be good for you if you can postmark everything right away, or submit online

can you postmark any time today (the 31st) , or does it have to be before noon?

or is it until the post office closes...?

what does postmark mean ?

ok... post office closes at 3 pm the 31st but it is open... at least down here in fla... (i think it's funny that schools tell kids to postmark by jan. 1st but the postoffice isn't even open)... hope this helps some...

"Postmarked" means that the date on the transmittal envelope must be no later than the proposal due date, regardless of the carrier used.

What is the time of the last mail pickup at the post office in your city or the nearest big city?

Don't confuse the postage payment date and postmark processing date. It is the postmark processing date that a college will look at.

You should submit your mail to the p.o. on Saturday, Dec. 31 by the time of the last mail pickup on Saturday, and that time will vary from city to city.

What city are you in?

You need to find your local p.o. where postal workers are actually staffing the retail window on Saturday and submit your mail for processing directly with a real live human being. Don't trust just placing it in a mailbox somewhere. It is New Years Eve and the p.o. will shut down earlier than normal in some cities.

Go to the USPS website to find a post office near you that is open on Saturday. http://www.switchboard.com/bin/cgidir.dll?Mem=1355&PR=138&CSF=LocatorPostOffice&CID=1222

Good luck...

thank god i sent all of my app stuff early today.

yesterday someone in CC reminded me that 1/1 is sunday and post office will be closed.

GOD BLESS HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoa. Haha. Good luck to you and everyone else. =)

kchen, there is usually a line at the Eastridge Mall, Parkmoor, Berryessa and other open post offices in SJ on 12/31, with everyone trying to get mail postmarked at the last minute. The Eastridge p.o. is usually open on Sundays, but probably not on New Years Day.

Even though the San Jose Main p.o. on Lundy Ave. is closed on Saturdays, the lobby (self-service stamps) is always open 24/7 with the last mail pickup there at 8:00 p.m. M-Sa and Express Mail pickup at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. But it's New Years Eve and New Years Day. Postal workers will take off early just like everyone else in the Valley.

Don't you just love living in Silicon Valley where you actually have choices and services available !!!

kchen, enjoy New Years, party safely Saturday night and try to avoid the drunk drivers and sobriety checkpoints on bay area roads.

Oh wow. For a minute, I thought someone actually looked up all this just for me. Hahahaha.

Yes, I LOVE Silicon Valley. Wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world. I live really close to Eastridge, actually.

Oh yeah, I'm not applying to colleges, if that was what you were thinking. And I didn't ask for any post office openings, but thanks, I'll know in the future.

Enjoy your New Year's too!

haha too, I know you're not applying to college this weekend.

I was just making idle conversation, waiting for the sun to come up so I can hop on VTA and handle business before the sun goes down and all of New Years Eve partiers hit the streets. It's going to be a windy, rainy New Years in Silicon Valley!

Yes, it'll probably rain. But nevertheless, I love this place.

Are you in college? You seem like it.

oh no, I'm way out of college, but do some research and advising for families with college-bound students.
