what's the latest i could mail something and have it postmarked January 1?

is it tomorrow or do i have until the 31st? also if it is tomorrow by what time do i have to get it in the box? if i go inside the post office and just ask the clerk to postmark will that work or what? damn, i really need to stop procrastinating... i've been saying that since the 5th grade... i guess i'm procrastinating about stopping my procrastinating ways... anyways answer my questions please!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: I just realized that tomorrow is TODAY it is 12:47 AM here and it's already the 30th... omg...

yeah, you have to send them tomorrow to be postmarked by the 1st. about time - it just depends where you live/when the pickup is at whatever mailbox you go to/etc.
but if you do your supplements online.. you have till midnight jan 1st!! ;)

question--do art portfolios have to be in by the 1st also?-sigh-

I believe the post office is closed the 31st (Sunday) and the 1st(holiday). Also the 2nd this year in honor of President Ford. So better get it in by the 30th. I think the post office closes early on Saturday (noon?). Not absolutely sure of this so maybe call and check? And then you better hot foot it down there and get it postmarked. Time to panic. Good luck.

the second is closed too??? that's awful . ahh.

2nd is closed? crapppp I was going to send chicago's that day.

i have 5 i need to send now. AHHHHHH

on a note bout the the art supp. as long as u have the main app. in (the common app) then i'm sure they don't care if u send in the art supp a few days later. a few college admission officers have told me that they see tons of overnight mail and thinks it's just a waste of money because it takes at least half a week or more to rip open every package and sort it.

Maybe schools will make allowances for the P.O. being closed the 2nd. After all a bunch of people will not realise it is closed (I only found out because I was checking something on their web site). Or maybe you can fedex it?

oh man you scared the ish out of me... i was reading these messages at 11:35 and read that you said the post office might close at noon on Saturdays... I was like "***?" i hopped out of my pajamas and put on some clothes real quick, i was out of the house by 11:40 and got to the post office at 11:50 after almost getting in an accident in the parking lot only to find out that they are open until 2:00 on Saturdays

so anyone else who's in the same situation as me you have until 2:00 to hop down to the post office... only 40 minutes left here on the east coast

anyways i still need to write some essays real quick so i can submit my online application... well i still got tomorrow for that

Post Office hours vary. Some here close at 12, others at 4pm. My son is out mailing his Cornell financial aid form & tax return - didn't remember it was due until reading it on CC last night.

From UChicago's uncommon application blog

"We've just heard that post offices will be closed on January 2 in honor of deceased president Gerald Ford. Therefore, the postmark deadline for application materials is now January 3.

Online application should still be submitted on January 2. The post office being closed does not change that."

I would suspect that all colleges will alter their deadlines. No college would expect you to have mail postmarked for January 1 because it is a holiday, or December 31 because it is a Sunday. January 2 is now a holiday, so it makes more sense to extend the deadline by one day than to cut it short by 3 days.

I am sure they'll not reject me because i mailed my app on 3rd.
