I already took
AP European History-5
AP US History-5
I'm very good at analyzing documents but not too good at analyzing pictures and paintings. I also am not artistic either. I took a class on African History and I was really bad at analyzing their art and musical instruments. This is for senior year and I already plan on taking 3 other AP classes.

From what I remember from my AP Art History class was slides after slides after slides of important works of art from specific time periods and understanding each work in detail and on top of that understanding them in their historical context. No artistic talent required.

You seem to really enjoy history, so I don’t see why Art History would be difficult for you. You probably had a hard time analyzing the art in that African History class because your teacher didn’t do a good job explaining the works. If the teacher discusses the work in detail as well as its historical context I don’t understand why you’d have trouble.

I honestly think you’ll do fine in an AP Art History class. Best of luck and I’m sure you’ll do very well on the AP test.

It’s a lot of material, and the textbooks and instruction tend to be long-winded, so don’t take it if you’re thinking it’ll be an easy AP. It is one of the easier AP exams I’ve taken though, if that helps. You certainly do not need to be artistic, but an appreciation of art is helpful. You don’t really have to analyze for yourself as much as you have to understand and regurgitate the analysis in your textbook or from your teacher. All in all, it can be a rewarding class to take, but I wouldn’t suggest it if you’re lukewarm about it.

Yes. Art History is for you. You will love it. There is a fair amount of interesting history folded and you will ove to learn about the motivations of the artists and the trends that prevailed during their creative years.
