We just got our elective planning sheets for next year. Whoopee.
So basically, the way our elective program works is that we have a bunch of core religious classes and then 13 elective periods for things like math, science, and fun stuff. Sooo... in the past also part of the core was AP or regular English Lit and AP or regular US Gov. This year, though, they've apparently decided to do away with this, give a broader English/US Gov curriculum to the whole grade, and force you to use up two of the 13 elective periods for each to take AP supplementary courses.
I'm super steaming right now. The 13 periods are divided into bars of 5, 5 and 3, so I'd be eliminated from taking either a 5 period class, like AP Psych or dual-enroll chem, or a 3 period class, like precalc- all of which I'd counted on taking this year along with AP English and AP US Gov. If I have to give up my elective periods to take them, I will definitely not take AP US Gv, but I see no reason not to take AP English, as it's one of my best subjects.
My options are:
A) Live with it, take one or the other or both out of my elective periods, and be stuck with not taking one of my planned courses
B) Don't bother taking them, self study one or the other, and take the AP without taking the course (is this feasible?)
C) Just forget about them
D) Picket my school and egg the principal's office (joking. Ish.)
What do you people suggest? have any of you self studied AP USGov or AP English? AP English is the one I'd rather take, so maybe focus on that. Is it worth the stress in my senior year?

“Is AP English worth it?”

Dammit, I was trying so hard to find a really egregious grammar error so I could say, “For you it might be.”

I’d go with Option A since it’s your senior year. Colleges will be more concerned with your junior year schedule.

is this ap lit or ap lang?

take honors english instead

Alot of college take only 5s for ap english so it really depends on you. Govt isn’t too hard so you could for that.

Yays! No egregious grammar errors! Though if I had any THAT bad I’d say to stick with Comp 101…
My school is an honors level school (privately accredited), so there is no honors class. It’s regular English (Modern Fiction and Journalism) or regular English (Modern Fiction and Journalism).
So my principal just announced that the separate AP English (Lit, by the way) class would be FOUR periods from my elective options, which would pretty much prevent me from taking 50% of the classes I’d been considering. She also asked if anyone would be interested in taking it under those circumstances and not a SINGLE person raised her hand. Tee-hee-hee. The problem is, she’s not known for changing her mind, so…
BUT! On a happier note, AP US Gov is now a core! Yippee!
So is the consensus not to bother taking it? Because that would mean that I would end college with 4 or 5 AP courses instead of 6 like I planned, depending on how my schedule ends up panning out.
Thanks for the help, guys!
