Hi I am currently a Junior in highschool and im filling out my schedule for senior year. I want to pursue in computer engineering, so I'm a math-based guy. Im currently in Algebra 2, and will take pre-calc over the summer to be in calc next year, and im also taking AP gov next year. I heard AP stats could either be hard if you have no idea what you're doing, or easy if you try. But my question is, would I be able to comprehend it? Ive gotten A's every semester this year for algebra 2 (high 90's) and got a B+ on geometry one semester last year, rest A's. Im also in physics right now, and I am currently at a B+/ A-. My math grades arent that bad, but my math level (Algebra 2) is kind of low, as im seeing people making threads and they're in AP calc and stuff. Do you think I will be able to make it and do good in AP stats? :/

It’s considered one of the easier APs.

Based on my grades and classes, do you think i will do good? I’ve taken AP classes before, and although they do go at a faster pace, they aren’t that much harder. But since I have no background information with stats, I do not know if it will burn my gpa down to the ground or not.

AP Statistics covers one semester of college intro. statistics, meaning the pace should be nice and slow.

In my experience, Alg/Calc and Statistics are two different beasts. Statistics is very conceptual, so you have to know concepts inside and out, forward, backward, and sideways. And yes, it’s easy if you try. You’re gonna find times when you don’t get it, so you have to read it in your textbook and pause for long moments to finally comprehend the material.

One thing it DOES have in common with hard math is that, for the most part, everything you learn will be stacked with future material, so you can’t forget what you’ve learned in the past because about 70% of what you’ll learn will come up again.

And if I could get an A when I got a B+ for both semesters in geometry and a B+ for one semester in Algebra 2, you’ll be just fine (assuming you put in the effort, of course).

Thank you so much! I’ll look into AP stats more. :D

If you’re not a mathematician and you study/not BS work, you shall ace it–it’s not hard at all. If you’re a mathematician and you BS work / do not study, you shall ace it, but you’ll be bored to death by the redundant homework that takes forever (but it’s still good to know).

But it can be a hard class… Especially if I was the teacher and I wanted it to be hard because I’d write the test with difficult problems and not teach the class everything on the test.~Math teachers at my school make it too easy compared to English classes especially when they teach everything.

Redundant homework?

Homework that repeats what was already understood.

When taken unit by unit, it’s insanely easy.

But once you get deep into the curriculum you find out there are lots of annoying similarities between units and it gets confusing. I’ve scored 90 or higher on every unit test but I’m pretty sure I bombed the midterm because I forgot when to use certain methods and what not. But to be honest I really didn’t study much at all.

If you put the work in and study you will be fine.

I’m someone who usually gets B’s in mathematics courses, and I’ve been getting A’s in AP Stats this year. I mean, of course it’s subjective, but the class really is not too bad. I do minimal studying, and I pass all of the tests and quizzes. It can be a little confusing at times, but I totally consider it manageable.

Thanks alot. I signed up for it!
