is college cheerleading like high school dance team?

Hey, so I've been dancing since I was 7 and dance team in high school, blah blah...standard mojo. Anyway, my number one school is a D1 and nationally ranked school in basketball (nothing to do with my username, i actually hate Harvard now haha), and i've ALWAYS wanted to be a member of a dance team in college so i could perform at the games...however, this school doesn't have a dance team (at least not one that performs at games and such)...is cheer in college like dance team in high school? I was considering this as an alternative because I've heard that the cheerleaders mostly dance...the main thing is that I CAN'T tumble. I'm plenty flexible, but i'm really tall and can't do any flips like remotely. is this too much of a stretch, or is it something that's plausible?

It all depends on the school. All though I doubt you can get on too many chearleading squads without tumbling skills. If it’s a nationally ranked school in basketball they probably have a nationally ranked cheer team too. Most will require specific skills like standing tuck, etc. You can probably get an idea by looking on youtube. They usually have videos of college dance teams and cheer teams.

Alright. I ended up youtubing their cheer squad and it’s definitely tumbling based. I’ll just have to do club stuff then. Thanks again!

Good luck! I’m sure they will be plenty of student run teams you can be part of. Just as fun.
