I've heard from someplaces that the Hotel School is more forgiving in terms of numbers (I heard people with 3.5s and 2000s got in) than other parts of Cornell, and that work experience at a hotel is the most important aspect of getting in. Is there some truth behind that?

By the way, I'm not looking for a backdoor into Cornell. I'm genuinely interested in the hotel biz and I'm planning on landing an internship at a local hotel this summer if possible (didn't have the time to do so until now). Is that too late to get enough work experience, or do I still have time?

While your numbers have to fall into whatever the Hotel School admissions committee considers to be a reasonable range, it is true that they are much more interested in your commitment to a career in the industry. Look for a job or internship in the business so that you can find out whether or not you do have that commitment. This isn’t a career path for just anyone.

Wishing you all the best!

D has a pal who will be attending Cornell’s Hotel school this fall. She fits happymom’s description-- good not great stats, serious commitment to the field. A really lovely young woman. Kids from our HS who go to Cornell have much higher numbers. I hope you get in, it does seem like wonderful training!!
