Is deferred like an early waitlist?

According to the lady I talked to two days ago they were currently reviewing mine and I was deferred. I think that's a pretty good indicator that they're done with all the regular applicants and moving on to the deferred ones.

UNC posts all new scores that they get as soon as they file them. If the scores aren't going up yet then go to the college board website. Here you can see your history of sent scores. If UNC does not have them yet, then it will say processing next to UNC. If UNC has them, it will say the date that UNC received them. It's that simple.

So we should still plan on March 20th online? Or will they be coming out earlier?

I was deferred and also have the message
Last Updated Date: 02/28/2008 11:50:04 AM

^^^That's what we're all trying to figure out...

There should be several new spots for some of you deferred. Chapel Hill High School is all over the news with a cheating bust. According to a reliable source, UNC is reviewing all EA accepted and rescinding admissions of the guilty students. D knows of at least four, possibly eight that will be rescinded in the first review; one was a student who had an academic violation from a previous year at the high school. UNC had already accepted about thirty students from CHHS and usually takes 50-60. I wonder if the shuffling has something to do with this?

my family appreciates all of the help and support from you guys. To set the record straight since some on this site seem to know far more than they really do:

First, I am a college student already. My b is applying and he not only makes straight A's but works, socializes and is in many outside activities. i remember this process and know how much time my mom and sister spent trying to help me with the workload. so i have done the same for my b.

vc08, please stop speaking for me or my b. you dont know me and you certainly don't know our situation.

first, the webpage did not change since notification during the early round. there have been a few calls to unc because of getting national merit, retaking the sat, and another situation that needed to be worked out. because of these conversations, my family felt is best to not bother them anymore for fear of being a pest. no one in my family read that updated scores after being deferred would be posted. does it specifically say that once deferred, the new scores will show on the site? because if the screen still shows all old info, it is logical to think they just have not updated the site. The official date is march 20 so with that in mind it is not unusual for the info to not be there yet.

second, the decision had not been made as of 9 am which is when the concern started. and I want to thank hannah because she is the reason we got concerned. this site and kind people have really helped here. b's page had not changed at all as of 9 on 2/28. calls were made by parents and counselors and all was straightened out and site updated a few hours later.

third, it was an unusual circumstance that i am not going to discuss at this time but unc received the scores but they were not in my b's file.

last, not sure that all deferred being updated at the same time is a good sign and i say that because you would think that if deferred gets equal time with rd, then their files would be in with the rd ones and not necessarily all done at the same time. this indicates that they were kept separate and again, seems like an early waitlist. it is like they accepted the rd and if anything is left looked at the deferred. maybe that is why a lot of deferred end up on the waitlist!

They're just trying to help. Stop over-reacting. If it weren't for vc, you wouldn't have even known to call UNC in the first place. You could be a little more appreciative, you're tone is annoying and disrespectful.

Along with that, if you don't like how I try and help you, then stop PMing me. I'm tired of writing you back and you not even saying thank you.

If you don't care about what I have to say, what's with all the PMs about my stats, ECs, essays, etc. that played into the UVA LL? Yeah, you are WELCOME for that, too. Jeez, check your ego at the door.

yea i go to CHHS, and it is crazy over there. i am one of about 15 that got deferred from CHHS, and we are all ridiculously upset because their cheating affects class rank and much more. i was not one of the involved but one of the main people has very very similar stats to me and he got in. Im hoping that i somehow get his spot because he got caught and for some reason only got 4 days OSS. one of them had a master key, used a camera phone to take pictures of the AP government midterm and sent the answers to many people. we are all very upset because the school's rep. jsut went WAY down, and we dont want UNC(where pretty much every senior at CHHS applied) to reject those who were deferred because we go to the school. i had 4 AP's and 2 reg. classes and got a 4.8 for MYR, and with people losing their acceptance, i really hope i get in now.

oh and my "last updated date" is gone. when i check the status it has all the same information but the "last updated date: 2/28/08: 3:50 P.M." is completely gone. hmmm?

Yeah, the status, last updated date, and deferral letter are gone.
It seems that some undeserving students got in (I know of many people with lower SATs and/or only taking 1 or 2 APs getting in), while some deserving students didn't get in. Oh well..

Good luck to all deferred

It seems like undeserving got in... are you saying that regular decisions have come out? or are you just saying that from the early decisions?

Early

........

So i'm going to take a guess and say that the decisions are going to come out this next Friday. What does everyone else think?

did they come out early last year?

I am thinking friday as well!!! (Two weeks before march 20)
-->I really hope it is friday

according to the letter, deferred students are reviewed after RD's are done. (IF SLOTS ARE OPEN)

rich hobo...my deferal letter is still there..:(..is it a negative?

vick i read the letter and did not get the impression that deferred actually are a waitlist. i got the impression that they are reading the rd apps and seeing where you fit in them. i guess it is how you read it but if they are only giving us a spot based on openings left after rd, that would be a waitlist (implying that you have in a sense been accepted but waiting for a spot and that is not what deferred is). it seems to me that you have a better chance of getting in if you submitted more information to be reviewed. it gives them more of a reason to reread you app and review it differently. it is like they thought you were maybe 75% ok for unc but they want the other 25% for the whole pic.

anyway, that is how i see it.

I was deferred EA with a 29 ACT. I've since submitted new scores, a 31 ACT (inc. a 36 E and 35 W), and my cumulative GPA rose with midyr grade reports. Think that will warrant a fair look?

Also, I realize that decisions may be postponed due to recent events at UNC. Anyone know when they may be released though? Is it always on a Fri?

Thanks :)
