well, athlese522, maybe, as long as the problem exists, some people might find it helpful to discuss about it.
Maybe that's why there are still people discussing about why there is war - and do everything to prevent it; why there is death, why there is poverty...

Or should we also forget those kinds of problems saying "people die, the world is unjust, there is disease in the world, big honking deal"?

P.S. I know that not everyone appreciates philosophical discussions and debates, but some do. Think of this as one.

No those are issues which are important. A persons sexual orientation is not.

My son is off fighting in Iraq, but wait what's that? The issue of same sex marriage needs to be discussed, well then let's get right on that. Yes lets forget the thousands of children and people with no health care, and the elderly who can't afford their meds. We must prevent the homo's from marriage, and decide why they are homo's to begin with.

U do think well for a 13 years old.

As you may have inferred especially from my last longer post (including the Harry Potter example), I totally agree with you that there are some issues more important than discrimination of sexual behaviour.

But the popularity of this topic indicates that there is a great amount of people interested in this "phenomenon" and would like to know how things function.

P.S. I was also writing about war and dying children in the world when I saw your reply. Consider that we actually agree on that point... but we are nobody to decide what's important and what's not.
We can direct the world's attention towards something that we consider more important. But the final choice is of the rest of the world...

P.P.S. Actually, I tried to diminish the importance of the whole issue with the HarryPotter example =)

athlete522: lol my thoughts exactly...my teacher has us right a paper on why the drinking age should be lowered the other day...and I wrote, is this really a problem? Aren't there real problems in the world???

Like gay marriage!!!? J/k.

I hate it when politicians divert the public's attention from real problems with silly legislation that won't pass either way.

Is War genetic?

It doesn't matter how they function. That's the main point. It just doesn't matter. People blindly believe in faith. Just let them be. A dude wants to kiss another dude so be it. It is what it is. Despite the enormous number of idiots who seem to think this should be a topic of discussion I would hope that our government would see that their are more important issues.

Is war genetic, did you really just ask that?

And I also find it crazy that cultures have had gay people in them throughout history, and many of these were not considered outcasts or evil. Greece and Rome come to mind, as well as Egypt...there are many examples throughout history where gay people weren't bashed and hated...it just wasn't a big deal.

And then you get the Bible saying gay people are immoral...twice...out of the whole Bible. But people focus on gay people and bash them b/c it is the easiest thing for them to do...it is the one of the easiest sins to point out.

Yes. Because it seems that in the same way people blindly believe in the absoluteness of sexual orientation, people also blindly believe in war... "unavoidable, natural, an economic force, etc."

Maybe we should create another thread for that. Or maybe not. Depends on whether you are a *why*ist or a *how*ist... =)

Yes brand_182 funny how people never focus on all the wacky things the bible has in it either.

its simply convenient to blindly adhere to a book until one begins to study it for themselves...then come the problems. I was incredible shocked and awed (lol) when my Cal 3 teacher said the other day that he didn't believe in numbers. I asked why and he said...

"If you study anything enough, you are bound not to believe in it anymore because you realize the flaws with the fundamentals."

He is brilliant by the way.

The Bible was written between 10000 and 1500 years ago, where words, symbols etc. had entirely different connotations than what we have today.
Unfortunately, this is one of the most misunderstood texts in the world due to its mysterified prolification throughout history by both institution and laics.

It was addressed to the folk of Israel and served both as a spiritual and extremely practical guide of preservation. They were a very small population and needed to reproduce. Hence, make more families, make more offspring (which also means more power, also militarily), and less jerking off (yes, there's also a "law" against masturbation =P), less humping samesex people and thereby "wasting seed" :P :P and less disease (there was no AIDS yet, but there were so many other diseases, especially among homosexuals).

Thank you alero, however I am quite educated on religion. Everybody knows that the bible is misunderstood and misquoted. This only means that people can't quote it when it is in their favor to do so, and then say that we don't understand it when someone throws out something ridiculous that it says.

Did I miss something? Who quoted the Bible here Oo ?

it was in reference to what brand had been saying it's just a comment

I thought the bible was only like... 1000 years old? If that?

That's what I heard...

yes. it is genetic.
