I'm currently in my last semester at CC trying to complete the Honors Program (TAP) for UCLA.
I'm really struggling with my Honors Econ class and thinking about dropping it.
I came up with a "solution" to drop the Econ class and take another "late start" Honors Bio class instead BUT it's only worth 1.5 units.. which will leave me at 13.5 units of Honors courses and 1.5 units off from completing the 15 units requirement.
So here are a few questions that are eating away at the back of my mind..

1) Will I be completely ineligible for TAP even though I'm shy of 1.5 units?
(I'm e-mailing my Honors counselor about this one too.)

2) If I drop the Honors Econ class and decide to take the other Honors Bio class instead, WHEN and HOW do I report it to UCLA?

3) If I don't send in the changes to my schedule and it appears as though I'm still taking the Econ class (even though I dropped it for the Honors Bio class) AND I get accepted to UCLA, will there be consequences/will I be rescinded?
(I know this is a stupid question, but perhaps it could be a loophole?)

4) In an extreme case, should I just drop the Econ class and forget about TAP?
(My transferable GPA is 3.67 and I'm an English major, so maybe I can get by without TAP?)

What do you guys think? Maybe some of you are in the same situation or have a similar experience?

Feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1) There are different requirements for each school in completing TAP. With that being said, if your Honors Counselor says it's okay for you to be TAP eligible although being 1.5 shy, then you're good once he/she signs the TAP completion form.

2) You need to report it immediately. I don't know how but I'm sure someone else will touch up on that.

3) Presumably yes. They are going to wonder why your transcript and the classes you reported are different.

4) I don't know if you'll get in (because admissions is like the BCS, you never know what is going to happen). But I do have to note that because you aren't completed with TAP already, it isnt going to factor into your admissions since you'll be done once they already give out decisions. In other words, it seems as if TAP is unnecessary. But of course, this differs from school to school.

I'm also taking an honors class for TAP that's kicking my ass.
Regardless of the 20 page final paper on something completely unrelated to my major... I had to fight myself from dropping that class because TAP is so damn rigorous for a reason: to filter out the quitters. Sorry to sound harsh but I doubt your honors counselor will let you get by. UCLA is incredibly strict with their TAP system.

Are there any alternatives at your cc?
For example... at Foothill College, we are required to take 2 seminar (1 unit) classes, and 4 full (4~5 units) honors classes to be TAP certified.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
I contacted my honors counselor and she said I HAVE TO complete 5 classes and a total of 15 honors units or else I will not qualify for TAP at all.. and no alternatives either. I'm not surprised :(
I took 2 Honors classes last semester and got A's in both and I have no problems with the other 2 Honors classes I'm taking now except this darn Econ class ! :(

Now I'm left to decide whether to drop that Econ class and forget about TAP or risk my GPA/possible acceptance to UC's and stay in the class.. and I need to decide by Thursday in order to avoide getting a "W"

ncmentor- Hah well that would be a perfect situation.. I actually did dropped by the learning center at my CC only to find out they don't have an Econ tutor at the moment. Great :P

I don't know how confident that you are about getting into UCLA (are your stats impressive on its own w/out TAP?), but if I were you (I constantly worry about it everyday too) I would NEVER risk it.

You're gonna blame yourself big time if you don't get in, and you know it!

Even if you end up getting the minimum grade cutoff (my CC is B) for the class, you'll be SO glad you stayed with TAP.

TAP wouldn't matter for the OP. He/she already applied without it being completed by the time admissions come out. Why would they give priority to a student who is still in process and could not complete the course?

^ TAP can be completed by the last spring prior to transferring.
TAP forms, however, are to be completed and sent to UCLA by the end of January.

I think people are getting confused here....
On the UC application, you LIST that you are participating in TAP. <- this doesn't go into account until the campuses receive the TAP certifications.

TAP certifications are the STAMPED and SIGNED forms that honors counselors fill out & verify that the student completed all the required Honors courses & are indeed TAP 'certified'.
TAP certifications are due March 3rd at my cc.
