I haven’t decided on what type of engineering yet, but I’m thinking about electrical engineering or computer engineering or computer science.
So I read a bit about hunter, and didn’t understand much. It said somewhere on their website I had to transfer to get the bachelor degree? And according to my math, it’d take around 5 years to get the bachelor degree. Honestly, I’m hoping for 4 years. Would it be possible for me to do only 4 years at another college? Or is it the same at every college?
Hunter does not really have engineering nor are they ABET accredited. They have a combined engineering physics track. Don’t go there if you want engineering. Look for NY ABET accredited programs.
City College is the CUNY engineering school. Check it out.
I see. I have checked out City College. Is it a good college though? I have heard a lot of negatives from my research.
I have checked out other colleges such as Citytech, Brooklyn College, NYU Poly (which is too expensive so I most likely won’t be going) and Stony Brook. How is Stony Brook for engineering? It is approximately 1 hour from my home and there seems to be no trains going to Stony Brook… And the whole area seems to be school area… So most students will have to live in dorms right?
Also, what kind of engineering does Baruch have?

The Long Island Railroad goes right to the campus at Stony Brook. It was a suitcase school when my H attended 40 years ago and it still is. None of my kids would even consider it because it’s too close to home.
City College (CCNY) is and always has been the engineering school in the CUNY system. My uncle graduated from it in the 1930’s and my sons have a couple of friends there now. It has dorms and is in Manhattan so there is always stuff to do. A friend of my D’s, who was so brilliant that he left HS early and went to Simon’s Rock, wound up at CCNY and absolutely loved it. The family is millionaires so he could have gone anywhere.
Baruch is better known for business and accounting and finance than for engineering.
I don’t know about City Tech. I am actually taking my son to an open house but he is interested in technical theater, not engineering.
agree with @techmom99. CCNY is a nice campus and convenient train service. The tuition is rock bottom, cheaper than a SUNY. City Tech has engineering and I’ve met a young woman attending there. She’s a very deterimined person, high achiever, and she didn’t want any debt when attending college. My only hesitation for that program is how it is if you’re not as self-motivated as she was. You might want to check out the level of academic and other support at the different schools that you’re considering.
@mayuyu You can search for any state’s ABET programs. Click off the Associate and Masters buttons so it only searches for Bachelors. On the bottom right scroll to NY and click that, then click search. You’ll get all the NY accredited engineering programs. I’m assuming you’re in-state for NY so they would be cheaper.
Stony Brook is very strong in engineering.
CCNY is an OK engineering school. What are your stats?
City Tech only has Engineering Technology programs that are ABET accredited. Associates degrees for most of the programs.
CCNY Grove Engineering School does have rock bottom prices, but if you want to live on campus it becomes VERY expensive.
Stony Brook is one of the best engineering programs in the SUNY system. But commuting from NYC might be a challenge, especially with the course-load an engineering student would have.

Is CCNY a solid choice for an OOS student seeking a Big City Engineering school? I’m from Michigan, nothing crazy stat wise( 26 ACT, 3.6 GPA), and CCNY seems to fulfill most of my needs/wants and is certainly in a big city. Is there any extra OOS merit? Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know what SAT and GPA is needed for Grove?
I would doubt that CUNY offers OOS merit unless you can get into the Macauley Honors Program and that’s not OOS merit, it’s a tuition free honors program. Housing is available but I am not sure if it’s included.
