current students, other class of 2005 applicants: is this a good place for a minority out-of-stater like me? i know the people are friendly and the campus is amazing... but would i be able to fit in with the people there? (i'm more of a serious academic type and LMU was a safety for me.)
and... is it true that everyone leaves on the weekends?

My daughter is in the exact same situation. She loved the school, the campus, the people, the location. But, having a number of other options is wondering whether this should be the one she takes.

I work with someone who went there back in the 90's. He was from out of state. He loved his experiences there, but did admit that the campus emptied out on the weekends. Other than that, he said it was a fantastic experience.

Unless money is an issue, I'd say go somewhere else. Most people come to LA because of the Hollywood stereotypes, and it just isn't true. Everyone here is extremely private, and the ones that manage to be somewhat friendly and outgoing are incredibly shallow and pretentious. I've lived here all my life, and I've slithered between the different social cliques, both financially so and ethnically. Los Angeles is simply a city with great weather (although not this past year) and plenty of job opportunities. The actual experience is a let-down, unless you too are obsessed with pop-culture and glitter, which of course, I "respect."

The LMU kids are generally gorgeous (,one true stereotype). The LA-born students are rich, spoiled starlets and the out-of-staters are essentially the same. Of course there are a decent percentage of those who have been given scholarships and thus decided to attend. Which is why I started this whole rant with the words, "Unless money is an issue." Now, if you are looking to go into the entertainment business, LMU is an interesting option. But once again, I would only suggest attending LMU over "better" colleges such as USC and UCLA if money is an issue. Better yet, go to NYU or UT:Austin. At least these cities have interesting people. Good luck and I hope you are happy with whatever your choice may be.

hey I'am 90% i'm going there!

there are a lot of different types of students there...there are a lot of rich kids who really weren't smart enough to get into other schools but have parents who have enough money to send them there. and then there are also minorities there on scholarship, who may not either be genius's themselves...

its an alright school, a little to small for my taste, 5 out of the 5 professors ive had have each been amazingly helpful and qualified.
