I have heard that this is a commuter campus and that the campus dies on weekends. Is this true? As a far left-winger from Ohio, would I have trouble fitting in? Is it true that LMU primarily serves as a home to "OC" type people?

I've visited LMU three times, and I don't really see the commuter reputation. I mean almost all of the freshman live on campus, and about 50% of the other undergraduates. And plus the school offers tons of on-campus activities. The problem is that the school is competing with LA. I mean if you are within 10 minutes of the beach, nightclubs, restaurants, shops, and everything else you are going to take advantage of it. As far as a left-winger fitting in, I'm sure it won't be a problem. Everyone seems pretty apolitical, so if your preaching about global warming or something, no one is going to judge you or give you a funny lokk. And as for the "OC" type people... that is the stereotype, so you will see those types of people, but you'll find your niche, so you shouldn't worry about it. And as long as I'm talking about the students, LMU has the hottest girls in the country.

Good Luck...and LMU is a great school...you should definitely consider it.

this thread is pretty old and i hope it's not too late for me to put in my two cents. I currently attend LMU.

YES most of these kids are from the OC and maybe it's just me but a lot of these girls are high maintenance -- i might be getting used to it now but it was almost a culture shock for me because i'm from such a down-to-earth, laid-back part of northern california. people in san francisco carry backpacks to class; at lmu people carry designer purses.

the campus is pretty much dead on weekends, many people go home. even though almost all freshmen live on campus, they live about an hour or two away from home.

you might not have trouble fitting in, but keep in mind many of the students are from the OC and fit the "rich white kid" stereotype and even if they dont they try hard to.

I am getting used to all of this, but i personally dont like it very much.

Hey collegebound, we are from a N.Cal suburb and considering LMU as well as Occidental, Pepperdine, Scripps, UCLA. My daughter is black. We noticed LMU has more than the usual 3 percent. Any thoughts?
