Is it just me or......

are there alot of incredibly smart people here????? it's kinda freaking me out and making me feel like a failure (just kidding,well,kinda).......do the smartest of the smartest people come on here or something because i hardly ever see low stats posted up here...

i think it's something like:

the "smartest" people are actually the most resourceful people

CC is a great resource

Thus, we've all congregated here

Hence why you usually only find the "smartest of the smartest" on this message board

Also, people with not so great stats probably aren't so interested in colleges, so they don't really have a reason to post here.

'Smartness' is relative to your demographics. Each applicant exists in his/her own personal ecosystem, so to speak, which differs from that of the next applicant. For example, an Asian Male from a wealthy HS in NJ is very different from a Black Male in Georgia who comes from a socioeconomically disadvantaged locale. Things such as level of competition, difficulty of courses/teachers, free time allotted, APs available/allowed, ease of extracurricular involvement, and resources available are all things that vary dramatically from one applicant's 'ecosystem' to that of the next. Colleges assess students based on the available insight on said student's background. Essentially, admissions committees do their best to give each candidate a fair shot at acceptance based on the candidate's corresponding demographics. Of course, they also strive to fulfill quotas, leading to the aforementioned (and rather infamous) 'Asian Male in NJ' stereotype :).
In any case, to directly address the original premise of your question: CC represents a minute portion of each graduating class in the country (roughly top 1-3%, perhaps even a little outside that margin). Just don't forget that an ability to discipline oneself to juggle 10+ AP courses and activities while maintaining good grades is not exactly a measure of 'smartness'. Neither is the SAT, which does not in any way indicate intelligence (only one's ability to read properly and avoid unrealistic ambiguities). 'Smartness' is indicated by some advanced comprehension of a disclipine and is a completely subjective assessment of character. For example, in my opinion, 'Smartness' is a result of one's ability to realize the human commitment he/she has to every other individual while at the same time pursuing and fulfilling his/her personal goals. Hope this helps!

@azn&proud: Very well summed up :D

melissaray, what makes u say that?are u in highschool or in college?

chuci- don't know i have just been looking at all the chances posts and it seems everyone has a 2100 sat or above and super high act's like 31 and above and they all are like ranked in the top 5% of their class and a bunch of people here have like all these crazy amazing stats.

Haha, I feel the same way when I look at everyone else's stats...

I never thought I'd find a place where people beat themselves up over getting a 3.9 UW GPA or ~2250 SAT. :)

But, like azn&proud said, just remember that CC consists of the top tier of college applicants, so it's a really bad representation of average applicants like us!

falco- ya, that's what i thought,ok thanks :)

Well, those of us with lower stats don't post as many score obsession/SAT/chances threads as those overachievers. But who's to say that you can't have something else?
