So I’m an out of state white male and I’m just really surprised that I got into Clemson, here are my stats:
1300 new sat
3.71 wgpa
3.48 uwgpa
AP’s: us history, environmental science, statistics, calculus AB, calculus BC, microeconomics, macroeconomics, physics c mechanics, and us government
EC’s
Track and XC all four years
Also a few pointless clubs
I just think it’s weird that I got accepted especially as an out of state student and it wasn’t even the bridge program, I got accepted straight in. Did I just barely get in?
While admissions wasn’t a “sure thing” your SAT score is above average and your GPA is not that much below average. I don’t think you just barely made it, your more along the side of an average accepted student profile wise.
Clemson admittance is very major specific. Engineering is competitive, however, they have a lot of spots for engineering majors compared to other majors. And remember, you were evaluated against the other applicants for general engineering (and not against other majors), so you must have fit will all those other applicants stats.
I mean I guess it doesn’t matter, I just thought it was a little weird. I’ve been accepted to kennesaw state university, university of Alabama, and auburn university.
I was deferred to:
Ohio state university
University of Georgia
My son got wait listed- general engineering - oos- GPA 3.69 AP and honors courses, 1290 SAT , 28 ACT, model United Nations Deligate for his school, 5 years V sport, over 250 hours community service, and numerous accolades - , his school does not rank , -makes no sense ! This was his number 1 school choice - anyone have suggestions for wait listed students? Thanks!
@florida27 You may want to look at the Common Data Set from last year to see how your son’s stats compared to last year’s accepted students . Clemson has gotten extremely competitive for admissions over the past few years. While your sons stats are impressive , they are typical of the applicants applying to Clemson. There are many instate students with stats as high or better than your son’s that have been waitlisted , bridged , rejected and deferred. His ECs are not weighed heavily for admission . Engineering is one of the most competitive majors to be accepted into at Clemson. You may want to look at some of the waitlist threads from last year, but really, it’s hard to compare this year to any other years because of the huge number of applications, over 24,000 this year.
@SCLADY12 there have been many OOS students with higher stats than have been rejected , waitlisted or deferred . Many instate students with lower stats have been accepted .While it may appear that decisions are based purely on wanting OOS tuition , the reality is there are probably more factors at play.
@TigerMom2021 My thoughts exactly!!! My daughter’s stats were somewhat stronger and we are in state. She got declined for Business! My good friend’s son (white male in state) had 4.5 weighted, 30 ACT , top 5%, Boys State, Varsity sports with awards for 4 years – Bridged for Business!!
My son has a 1410 SAT, Palmetto Fellows Scholar, 12 AP courses, 4.1 WGPA, Eagle Scout, President of Model UN and President of another academically oriented club that he founded, Palmetto Boys State…He even has 3 hours of A in a college course–from Clemson.
He was accepted to the Bridge Program, which I find to be insulting. If online stats are believable, his SAT is above Clemson’s 75% percentile–and they want him to go to Technical College for a year and pull a 2.5 to prove he is good enough for Clemson? Clemson’s admissions policies are very strange. This experience left me with a very negative view of Clemson.
I’m not sure why the school is so popular anyway. The campus looks like someone dumped a bunch of 1960’s architecture on a farm, and unless there is a football game, the place is a ghost town on the weekends.
He is lukewarm about Clemson. He was conditionally accepted to Georgia Tech, which is what he wants to shoot for. He also has a scholarship that will pay full tuition at USC.
What Clemson is doing is a money grab, and SC taxpayers should be up in arms. It’s clear to me from this board and other sources that the qualifications are lower (and tuition higher) for OOS students. OOS students get in, and better qualified (and lower tuition) SC kids are sent to technical college by Clemson.
As I said earlier, I have a very negative opinion of Clemson. Clemson should be concerned about their reputation with employers.in this state. .
@jacketup What majors did he select? Since Clemson admits within major, that’s really helpful information for those of us with juniors who want to apply. You really can only compare against those applying within your major.
