<p>Answer to original question Yes (IMO) it is OK for parent to call admission offices and ask questions. I had a lot of questions being a non-musical parent, not being the least bit familiar with the process, and not having discovered this forum yet. And I agree that how much a parent gets involved does depend on the maturity level of the teen…mine was not ready yet. Only one of the college admissions offices made me feel weird about it (“just who is applying here, you or your son”) but after that jab was out of the way proved helpful and informative. </p>
<p>And inspite of my admittedly helicoptering parent style before college, my son did OK finishing his freshman year over a thousand miles away, rare phone calls and emails home (too busy with numerous musical ensembles), all 'A’s except predictably in his one non-music class, no overdrafts on his bank account and didn’t get sick that I know of. When they’re ready, they’ll fly!</p>
