Is it possible to get in even if you don't get a likely letter?

Hey,

I was just browsing when I fell upon a post entitled "I got a likely letter." Once I found out what this was I became a bit nervous. I never received anything like that.

If you do not get a likely letter, is it safe to say that you won't be admitted to Dartmouth?

Thanks a bunch,

-Deion S.

Of course. About 1200 will recieve an admission to Dartmouth having never received a likely letter.

A little more than a week left. Just hang in there a little while longer

More like 1,000 - a pretty small fraction of the RD applicants. I assume about 400 ED admits and 600 "likelies" this year, to fill the roughly 1,000 seats, with a 50% yield rate..

600 likely letters? I believe only about 200 or so are sent, if Dartmouth is like the other Ivies/schools that send likelies. Deion, don't freak out yet. ;)

Don't worry, Deion. I know people at Dartmouth who never got likely letters.

why do they send likely letters anyways? and why only to 200? do all ivies do this?

No, Dartmouth sent around 600 this year - up from over 500 last year. Other Ivies send them too, but not as many as Dartmouth.

Compare: <a href="http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2005022401040&sheadline=&sauthor=&stext=likely%20letter%5B/url%5D">http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2005022401040&sheadline=&sauthor=&stext=likely%20letter</a></p>

I don't think that 600 were sent this year (perhaps more?). Where did you get that number?

dartmouth i think this year disclosed those stats themselves saying and abt 500+ likelies were dispatched..though still with the 500 here + Ed numbers.. and thats about a smalll fraction of class..
