Is it possible to switch majors before school starts?

As per title, is it still possible for me to switch majors before school starts? I applied for the Applied Mathematics program at McCormick, but after some thought, I've realized that what I was actually looking for was industrial engineering with an emphasis on math/econ not Applied Mathematics. Is there some way for me to change majors now or am I stuck in AM for a year before I can switch majors?

What is the NU policy on double majors? I'd like to try double majoring in CAS econ/Industrial engi.

I have the same question but mine involves switching schools as well. Engineering to Chemistry in Weinberg. Anybody know if this is relatively easy to do? I think switching majors within your school is a lot easier, Nmc...but I'm not sure...

I'm pretty sure that the major you put on your application is not set in stone.. basically you don't declare until your sophomore year. For switching schools, you need to fill out some paperwork, but it's relatively easy.

Oh alrite, thanks! :)

Yeah, declaring a major is really not a big deal, it only matters for pre-registration. You could be declared as an Econ major but really be pursuing a Spanish major and just not have declared it. You have until Sophomore year to finalize your declaration.

As for switching schools, it's usually not a big deal going into WCAS or SESP from other schools, it's a bit harder to get into MEAS/COMM and a lot harder to get into Medill. I would recommend emaling the dean of the school you are looking to transfer into and explain your situation and simply ask what you should do to ensure a smooth transfer. I did this over the summer (WCAS -> SESP) before I arrived and they just transferred me into SESP, no paperwork, no questions asked. So when I arrived everything was set- much easier this way.

That sounds great! Thanks dfleish!

Yup thanks man for all your help !

And another thing just for extra information, if I would like to switch schools before september, but I get rejected, I just go back to my old choice with no negative effects at all, right?

Yes, most probably since you already have a place in McCormick.
