I heard that the classes are hard, and that the GPA system is rough. I am planning to get a degree in psychology and take pre-med classes. Is that true? I am considering WWU or UW to finish the last two years of my undergrad, I got accepted to both and I have to make a choice. Is the UW pretty hard?

I graduated with my BA at UW with a 3.82
I graduated SCCC with my AA with a 3.92

So it went down a little, but not much

That’s good to know! What was your B.A. in, may I ask?

If you want the higher GPA and the students to be less competitive then go for the less competitive school instead… but it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to get a good GPA at UW. It can be harder to get 4.0s in classes UW, but it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. So if you’re expecting to get a high GPA you should work hard in either case regardless. I’m pretty sure you have a chance to do great in both schools but the question is just how hard you are willing to go.

It also really depends on the professor and / or TA. I’m a history major, and I’ve experienced everything from easy upper-div 4.0s doing practically nothing to 200-level 3.0s killing myself studying day and night.

Be sure to check RateMyProfessors for comments on grading and workloads. MyEdu is also an excellent resource for actual statistics on specific classes and teachers.

All that said – sometimes a poor grade is worth it if you find a brilliant and engaging professor. Some of my most memorable and valuable experiences at UW involved significant hits on my GPA. :-)

It is hard to get a solid great GPA if you are in the STEM field espeacially because of the competitiveness of the students, and difficulty of UW exams in STEM! but if you work hard it is most possible to do really well!
