Is it safe to post my essay now?

Hello,

This past January I applied to USC, and then I knew I could not post my essay due to the risk of it being seen as plagiarized by the university if they were to put it through a plagiarism checker. However know admissions decisions have already been made by USC and are being sent out on the 22nd, so I wanted to ask if it would be okay to post my essay here now and have others give it feedback? I know I’m posting it after decisions have already been made, but I want just some feedback or opinions on whether it was good or not. Thank you for your help.

I suggest that you not post your essay up for public view. If others respond and say they are willing to review your essay, then you can share it with them via PM.

You can PM it to me.

I would never post it publically.

I agree with intparent.

Why not run it by your English teacher instead of a bunch of strangers online? Most of the people who post here are kids like yourself. There was a thread yesterday where a person claimed to be an adult, offering to read an essay. That person had exactly one post, and that one post had a typo in it. THIS is the person you’re trusting with your essay??

Don’t make it public. You can pm it to me if you would like. I have been reading many people’s essays on CC

I would suggest NOT posting publicly. If you are going to send it to someone, make sure that they have at least a few hundred posts and that they have a good track record on CC. There is a CC thread on the college essay forum for finding trusted readers.

I, too, would be happy to look at it if you were to PM me.

English teachers suck the life blood out of college essays. Leave it be.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, an English teacher. But I know how to write effective essays & how to critique others’ works. Please PM it to me as I would love to offer a brief critique.

There is really no reason to do a post mortem on your essay. For what purpose? Better to think about what to pack for college!

@jym626: I think that there is good reason to reexamine one’s work product–especially in cases of failure.

Of course, the original post in this thread is almost 2 weeks old so it may be a non-issue.

I can’t agree. The essay is unlikely to have been the deal-breaker. Kids need to let it go.

Wow, my husband, the English teacher, would be so hurt to hear that indictment on his profession.

Sorry @bjkmom . Your DH is probably wonderful. But the cases I’ve seen- the essays tend to come back grammatically and syntactically correct but bland.
