Is it true no one care what you look like and no one dresses up in college?

I like looking good but don't like to stand out too much. I don't wear make up(tinted lip balm doesn't count) unless its a special event.I think I'm going to go to a CSU that requires 2.00 gpa and not a UC which requires a 3.00..but I might change my mind. I just couldn't stand wearing sweats to class id rather wear PJs.

Also woul it be a bad idea to not wear a bra,I'm kinda flat and if I wear a sports bra I look like I have no boobs!

It’s more important to dress how you want to, instead of just relying on what everyone wears. I would advise against wearing sweats and pajamas to class, because it just looks lazy and gives the impression that you don’t care. My rule of thumb is to put as much effort into your appearance as you expect your professors to give.

Also, the average gpa doesn’t have anything to do with how people dress (as far as I’ve seen).

As for the bra, (again)wear whatever you want. The point of going to class isn’t to thrust your chest in people’s faces and land a boyfriend anyway.

I wear whatever is comfortable. Not pajamas cuz that’s just looks lazy and embarassing. But sweats and stuff…all the time

I usually shower and change in the morning, but if I oversleep too much, I just throw on a new pair of clothes, or I just go to class in athletic shorts or something. I’ve not yet actually seen anyone come to class in pajamas, but then again, a lot of people are lazy and just sleep in their normal clothes that they wore during the day.

I’ve had a friend who came to class in PJs on a semi-regular basis. She was a bit eccentric but well-liked by students and professors alike. (I would only recommend PJs if you are an active participant in class though; otherwise your professors might get the wrong impression.)

just wear what you want, around here you see girls in sundresses and girls in PJs. guys looking like they were in a Brooks Brothers photo shoot and guys looking like they’ve been living in the caves of Afghanistan.

I go to a school in the SEC, so I think that my experience is pretty atypical. (At least I’ve been told other SEC schools are like this) But girls at my school for the most part don’t dress like bums. The only classes I ever saw some girls in sweats was my 8 AM Statistics Lecture. Otherwise, girls dressed pretty nicely for every class. I almost always felt under-dressed in jeans and a t-shirt.

That being said, no one really cares what you wear. Personally, the only times that me and my friends didn’t actually get dressed were on weekends when we were going to the student union for breakfast. Otherwise pretty much no sweats or pajamas.

Yeah, I hear southern schools are a bit more formal in terms of how people dress.

Two reasons for dressing nicely for class:

1) Makes you feel good about yourself.
2) “Officiates” the work days.

This!!! Also, I don’t care what people wear but I do NOTICE what they wear. You can only make a first impression once. I’m not saying everyone should dress up but I don’t understand the sweats. Doesn’t it take the same amount of time and effort to put on a pair of jeans and a nice shirt? I don’t understand.

Errm…can you not wear a regular bra? I don’t get why it’s a sports bra or no bra… -___-;

It was always something to laugh at when my roommate would throw a fit if we tried to get her to go to the dining hall next door in sweat pants for breakfast (even though they were tight and looked more like thicker leggings) because she was worried about what people might think.

I usually wore jeans and a tshirt and I never wore make up. I have worn sweats to class before, though. It was a Saturday class at my old CC that started at 8 so I needed to be up by 6 or 7 depending on the weather. They weren’t ratty though.

No one cares but people notice. There’s no need to be decked out for an 8 an class, imo. You’re there to learn, not rip the runway. But I do think it looks a little gross to go to class in PJs. It looks like you haven’t bathed or anything. Roommate did it regularly – oversleep and then go to class in the filthiest sweats ever, not even brushing her teeth. When ever I see people out in PJs, I just get that impression.

Doesn’t matter what you wear. If you want to dress up and/or wear makeup, fine. If you want to wear sweats, also fine. Me, I’ve been dressing nicely every day when I go to class simply because I want to. In high school, all I ever wore was jeans, tshirts, and hoodies, and I wanted to change that in college.

i like to wear Adidas track suits and a large clock hanging from a chain of blood diamonds

Most people dress fairly well at my school (no one looks like a slob, and a good amount of people wear nice clothes). Girls generally dress better than guys, from what I see; a lot of guys are in sweatpants, but girls generally only wear them when they’ve been working out.

I’d say it’s different for every school. I go to a small LAC and people either dress in athletic clothes or preppy and fashionable. I can tell a lot of girls put some effort into their wardrobe and there are some guys who dress down to the T. Boat shoes, polos, khakis and all …

during the winter/especially for 8am classes at my school, students look like crap as a whole and no one cares (sometimes unshowered, sweats, pajamas, eskimo jackets etc…even the sorority girls). When it is warmer weather or later in the afternoon, it is more important to look presentable and some people will dress up/look cute but by no means is it a rule. Although people will still look at you strangely and ask “what are you dressed up for?” if you are a girl looking too nice/polished for no particular reason (has happened to me too many times).

There was a post on here earlier about how putting on jeans instead of sweatpants takes no more/less time, but sweatpants are more comfortable! For whatever reason, I can’t wear jeans anymore since I’ve started college, they just aren’t comfortable or practical to me.

Am I in the minority? I don’t think I look like a total slob, I guess I dress girly-athletic but it’s considered dressing up for me if I wear jeans. I actually have a very good sense of style with a closet full of JCrew, Banana, Michael Kors and Express clothing - all with the tags still on them. I’m just lazy and dress for comfort. You go to school to learn, not to impress others.

I wear jeans because they’re most comfortable for me, but that’s probably because guys don’t have to have their jeans surgically affixed to the skin.

Underwire bras hurt my back and ribs plus there’s only padded bras and it makes it look like I have bigger boobs even though its not
