Someone told my son this, that the GPA weighs more heavily than SAT's and that they don't consider the writing, does anyone know this for sure?

Heres there admissions criteria.

2/3 GPA (unweighted, weighted and courseload)
1/3 SAT and Extra Curriculars.

yea . . they do look at GPA more then anything elese

My son is at Penn State. Yes, GPA/rank is the main thing they look at more than SATs. If you are in the “questionable range” THEN they would read the essay - otherwise they ignor it. (When my son applied 4 years ago the essay was optional, but he took my advice and wrote one since that always shows initiative).

The essay is still optional.

i sent a personal statement, one essay, and an extra letter to penn state. regardless of whether they read them or not i want them to know i am interested.
