Anyone know?

No, only ELCs are guaranteed admission this year, unlike last year, when all eligible applicants were admitted.

"For Fall 2006, UC Merced will again guarantee a freshman spot for every student who achieves Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) and completes the examinations and A-G high school courses required by the UC system. ELC is the designation for students identified by UC as being in the top 4 percent of their school's graduating class."

This year, they have not stated that Non-ELC eligibile students are guaranteed, but they will likely admit eligible students at a very high percentage.

The data, for instance, for Fall 2005, was:

Applicants 7,949
Admits 6,134

Admit Rate 77.2% [i.e., rest were not eligible]
ELC Admit Rate 94.0% [i.e., 6% didn't complete reqs]

Average GPA 3.58
Average SAT 1140
Average SAT II Math 580
Average SAT II Writing 550
Average # A-G 45.4

Percent admits by # of honors courses
15+ 90%
10-14 86%
5-9 76%
<4 57%

I remember reading somewhere that as long as you meet UC requirements you are in at UCM or UCR.

95% of the time.....

thanks for that info :)

i know some people that got accepted with 2.8 gpa for the fall 06 quarter...

if you are applying for the fall 07 quarter....they will take you with a 3.0 gpa regardless of what your sat score is. in fact, they don't even look at it.

You are automatically in UCM with a 3.0gpa.... I heard it from my counselor at a UC Admissions conference.

"I remember reading somewhere that as long as you meet UC requirements you are in at UCM or UCR."

Yeah, came from an interview this past year from an Admissions Director or something. MSN, I think it was.

i didnt apply to ucm, i had a 2.8 gpa 1800 sat with a Fs and Ds here and there and got in

thats just one reason we should completely get rid of the SAT's--the inaccuracy to show a student's ability.

are u guys talking about just in-state students from California? What about out-of-state students? Will out-of-state students get in if they are above the required UC requirements?

Any one know of the current stats to get in?

3.12 gpa with 1710 SATS.... no activities needed - Merced admissions counselor

Thanks xalley!

they'll take anyone that would want to go there.

Indeed! If you meet the UC requirement, you will definitely be admitted into UCR or UCM!

If UC admissions continues to get more competitive, there may be a year where UC Riverside does not take all UC-eligible applicants, but there's always UC Merced!

i dont know about that i think the majority would rather go to merced than riverside...i think merced will become more prestige than riverside relatively quickly

Somehow I doubt that Dlnitsud.

Riverside is ranked in the top 100 schools nationally, Merced is in its own special place. Merced has ALOT of growing to do, whereas Riverside already has many established programs. Merced for some time will continue to be at the bottom of the UC's, thats just what happens with newer schools. Thats part of the reason why Harvard, CAL, Yale, etc are such good schools, they have been around for so long!

One day, I bet Merced will slip up in the top 100 National Universities, but we must give it time.

"thats just one reason we should completely get rid of the SAT's--the inaccuracy to show a student's ability."

That's just nonsense IMO. Grades are far more important as they take into account other factors such as study habits, work ethic, responsiblity, personal motivation, etc. But test scores are the most fair and accurate way of measuring a student's intelligence.

has anybody with a 2.5GPA got in??? LOL.
