... Is it worth appealing to UCSC?

I was rejected from UCSC with a 3.1 gpa and a 1760 sat score. I have tons of extracurriculars, awards, and experience (filled up all the spots on the UC online app) and a really good essay. Should I appeal? What should I say in my appeal?

Appeals almost never work unless you’ve done something significant since you submitted your app.

have you been accpeted to any other colleges? and are you in state or out of state?

hey lesportsac I’m in a really similar situation as you. 3.19 GPA 1740 SAT bomb essays tons of EC’s. idk whether I should appeal now or wait to see if by some godly miracle, I get accepted to a different UC. I have Davis and SB left

Those stats are pretty low for UCSC, especially this year. They received 27000 applications for 3200 spots. But I’m really sorry. :frowning: There’s definitely no harm in appealing. It’s worth a shot. Good luck!

well, they might only had 3200 spots, but thats what they were expecting. they probably accepted 10,000 applicants. I was also rejected but wait listed with a 3.4 gpa, 1600 sat lots of ec. (1200 hours of cs, eagle scout with lots of leadership positions),
should i try to appeal, i was elected as the county president for the national eagle scout association within the last month as well as nominated for eagle scout of the year…

same… great. I think appealing is my last and desperate option. ): this bites. I’m definitely not going to get in anywhere else.

I don’t want to be a total bummer, but I personally find none of the UC schools appealing this year. California’s economy has fallen so far in debt, the students and professors has had a strike practically every month. Then, with rising tuition costs and a whole bunch of other problems that the schools systems are undergoing…

I mean, if UCSC was your number 1, then go for it (though appeals rarely work unless you did something totally awesome since you submitted your app).

Good luck!

^People complain way too much. You are talking about UC Berkeley and UCLA among some of the best colleges in the world and while many people should be appreciative they aren’t spending 50k a year at an east coast private school, they strike.

Still, UCs are great and if you’re in-state, a good deal. I would assume appealing is even harder this year because some UCs went to a wait-list, but I know several friends who got in after appealing. Maybe it shows extra interest, too.

how do you know if you are wait-listed??

it will say you are on the wait list when you log-on to myUCSC and go to the application status tab

Appeal you tard,
Come up with the best ‘reasons’ you can and go for it. It cannot hurt. Every year they seem to have a massive housing problem because they let more people in than they can handle… Also an idea: send in two appeal packets, maybe on different days.

I got rejected with a 3.3 GPA and 1770 SAT, along with some sports and community service extracurriculars. I considered appealing, but on second thought decided not to.

My stats are about the same as yours, and I got in last year off the bat. Some of my friends got in off appeal and their stats were better than mine. If you really want to appeal, then sure, it’d be worth it. Just milk the appeal for all you can. Show them how badly you want to go to their school, and it’ll probably work in your favor.

i’m waitlisted with a 3.78, lots of EC’s & sports. my friend with a 2.9 got in. college admission is so unfair

Just go for it.
