I know CPP is a commuter school so is it even worth dorming? If I don’t, my commute to school would take 40 minutes.
If you are not a local area and a freshman, you may be required to live on campus.

Campus life has been improving in recent years and with almost 4,000 students, cpp has one of the largest residential community in the csu.
I am also around 40mins away, but you can try to get exempt from dorming.
With commuting you won’t be making a lot of friends or meaningful relationships, or at least it will be a lot harder.
If you’re not looking for that stuff really, then you can just try to commute.
Also if you’re an incoming freshman, I am too so we could b frands
Yes, it’s worth dorming if you can afford it, at least the first year. It’ll allow you to grow and instead of wasting time driving a frankly painful commute you’ll have more time to study and get involved (which leads to. Networking which leads to job skills).
A study actually shows students who live on campus are more involved and get better grades, which makes total sense actually.
Can anyone with a current student living at CPP chime in on how campus life is? Also, is the air quality an issue throughout the year? We loved the school, but our son has asthma and people who went there years ago say air quality would be an issue for just walking around campus often throughout the year. I would love to hear from a current student to see if that is really the case. Thank you.
@collegeisgreat Not a current student at CPP, but I live in the surrounding area. About 10 minutes away. The area that CPP is in is actually very suburban, so I don’t believe that the air quality is an issue. There may be the “ghetto” or dirty side of Pomona, but CPP is located in between Walnut and Phillips Ranch. Mt SAC is close by CPP. The San Gabriel Mountains are also located near CPP, giving a nice clear, suburban view. Also, Walnut and Phillips Ranch are also very safe in regards to crime activity, if that’s also an issue you’re looking into. These cities have lots of trees, hiking trails, houses, and not a lot of people are seen walking around the streets. There is also significantly less traffic in the areas compared to LA. (I’ve lived in both places before)
I have a lot of friends from my school who are first year freshmans at CPP. Some dorm, and some commute because they live close enough. All of them seem to be liking everything, including their classes, campus life, and the people they hang out with. I’ve passed by the campus several times and I was amazed to see how beautiful and huge the campus was. You could say CPP is more of a commuter school, but I think that goes for almost all Cal States. I’m a CPP freshman applicant, and I’m hoping to go there if I get accepted. I don’t know if my insight helps at all, but hopefully this answers your question.
@selfconfidentgal , thank you. That does help. It is currently still in his top two, so we will see. We are going to tour it again. By the way I love your user name
@collegeisgreat Good luck to him, I hope he gets accepted! I’m still waiting for a decision from them as well. And thank you so much
