Rumor has it that Georgia Tech is a miserable place to be with poor social life. Now, I'm not one for socializing in high school, but college seems like the place to meet someone that is special. So, is it worth it?

I don’t think it’s a miserable place with a poor social life. It’s not like FSU, where aspiring supermodels walk around campus half naked, but there’s plenty to do and many people to meet.

With that said, there’s no magic school where horribly introverted kids can sit in their room and expect attractive women to knock on their door to bring in fun things to do (at least, not without paying the women). You have to go out, join clubs, and meet people in order to make friends. The reason Tech gets a bad rap many times is because introverted kids (of which Tech has many) expect “fun” and “women” to find them, and it doesn’t happen, so they blame the school. The truth is, though, that even at UGA or FSU, or ASU, these students would be just as lonely and just as bitter.

There’s a really good Greek social life here, and if you’re not into that…you won’t have any problems meeting people to hang out with in the dorms.

It isn’t a miserable place to be unless you’re already a miserable person. Seriously, I have never had a problem meeting people and finding fun things to do, and I’m not involved with Greek life, but I’ve heard that’s fun too.

I had similar fears to you before coming to Tech, but it’s really not the awful place that people say it is.
