So I got a 780 on my Math SAT II. My parents want me to retake it again to get an 800 which I think is super excessive. I think I have the potential to get a perfect score, but does the difference between a 780 and 800 really matter? Should I really invest the time into studying for it? Any input would really help - thanks!
Ummmm, in your other threads your wrote that you got 800 on your Math 2 SAT.
It any case, it’s not worthwhile taking it again if you indeed got a 780.
If I remember correctly, then a student can receive an 800 with 5-6 incorrect answers out of 50 questions. Matters to some, but not to others. That’s the question you have to ask yourself. How much of a perfectionist are you? Everyone is different.
“a student can receive an 800 with 5-6 incorrect answers out of 50 questions.”
This will depend upon the specific test. However, I would be surprised if this is true in any math SAT. Math is an area where there will be some students who get every question correct.
It certainly was possible years ago to get an 800 on the physics SAT with one question wrong.
I think that a 780 is fine for admissions to any university. The one reason that I could see to retake it is if you really want to try to get a perfect score just for the sake of getting a perfect score. Either do it for yourself or don’t do it. It sounds like you don’t want to do it. If you will be a senior when school starts in a few weeks, you will have a lot of other things to use your time and energy.
Math Level 2 subject test. It’s in the OP’s thread title. I helped prepare my kid for it about two years ago. The test is 50 multiple choice questions. The test is curved. Fractions of points are deducted for wrong answers. As I said above, if a student raw scores roughly 43 to 45, out of 50 (depends on which Math Level 2 test given), then you can receive a score of 800.
There are several scenarios, but for example, you can miss 5 and omit 0, which would get a student a raw score of 43.75 which rounds up to 44.

A score of 800 puts a student in the 79th percentile. A score of 780 puts a student in the 71st percentile.

I’d say depending on the school, an 800 might be required, say like MIT or Cal Tech, or the top CS or Engineering programs.
Assumes facts not in evidence. OP is looking at BC, Lehigh, NYU. So even if an 800 were required for MIT (which it’s not IMO), it does not apply here. I would possibly be more concerned with the 730 in Chem.
Regardless, since the question posed contradicts the OP’s other posts, and since a student who scored a 780 in Math should assume that this question has been asked before and have done a search, I am closing this thread.
