Is it worth transferring to UNC Chapel Hill?

First of all, I am majoring in Political Science with plans to attend law school at UNC or Wake Forest.

I am a rising junior at North Carolina State University. It's not widely recognized but in the state, it's well respected - which is a important factor because I plan to work only in the state of North Carolina. For my remaining two years, I was planning on attending UNC Chapel Hill. I was excited and prepared to transfer. In fact, I have already enrolled, set up housing, financial aid, etc.

To my dismay, I found out that most of my classes transferred as simply electives, which means I have to "re-take" a bunch of general ed. classes I thought I had fulfilled, which I find terribly obnoxious. I am really disappointed because I've been prepared to transfer, and now it would only put me behind. UNC is a better university with more resources, and a better political science department. I was also hoping to get "feel" of UNC Law - for starters, I got a part time job at the law school.

At the same time, UNC is more academically challenging - I'm not positive I would excel like I have at NC State, and I know law schools critically look at grades + LSAT, and the ranking of undergrad doesn't matter greatly. The question is, is UNC worth all the trouble to transfer?

stay at North Carolina State , then go to UNC law…

Do what you want to do. I can’t imagine UNC is much harder than NC state, unless you can get good grades at NC state without doing any work. But you can fight for your transfer credits and i’m sure you’ll get at least some changed.

In terms of law school admission, you would receive no discernable benefits from transferring, so the decision should be based on other factors.
