I applied for a few scholarships, trying to show that Wash U was my top choice, but I was waitlised. I was told that scholarship applications help people get in, but for me that was not the case.

My S didn't apply for any scholarships even though he was nominated for Danforth and he got in - ACT 35, SAT 2180, SAT II 800-790-760, NMF, top 4%, admitted to SEAS, computer science. He listed WUSTL on his NMF form since it was the only school he applied to that gives NM scholarships. He did the regular tour last year and an overnight/interview last month; also attended the college visit at his high school. Based on the info in the other thread (US News) I think he got accepted because they want to build up their strength in engineering dept.

Oh, yeah, it's not his first choice at the moment but definitely in the running.

washu by no means is my top choice but it's higher up there than stanford.

well...it's MY first choice (I seem to be one of few here with that opinion)...and they kindly accepted me early :)

I knew I shouldn't have told my interviewer where else I was applying. But no, I decided to take the honest route.

Do you think that really makes a difference? I didn't interview for WUSTL but now I'm worried about Tufts thinking it's only my safety.

If someone puts down Tufts or WUSTL or Oberlin as their first choice ( and they are qualified to go there ) How do THEY know THEY are your first choice ?? On FAFSA form ???

I'd say it's about my third choice. However, the two that are ahead of it are Harvard and Princeton and since the vast majority of applicants to those schools are rejected, I'll probably be at Wash U in the fall. (Not that this bothers me, I love the school)

You and are quite alike in terms of our college plans. I am also waiting on Harvard and Princeton but I doubt that I'll get in.

Definitely my first choice.

It wasn't my first choice when I applied, but hearing/reading more about it has made it my top since then. Hopefully this will still hold true when I visit.

It was my first choice as a junior, but now that 1) I haven't gotten any scholarships and 2) I got into Duke....I probably won't be going to WashU even though I'm accepted

CC123, I'm in the same boat as you. I didn't know much about the school when I applied but now am getting psyched to take a trip out there and accept!

My first choice since early August and luckily I was accepted early!

Darn it... I didn't realize until recently that Wash U is really where I want to be... and so I'm WAITLISTED... with stats comparable to people who got in. In fact, I sit behind a girl in my calculus class who got in, and every day now I have to sit there, knowing that my scores are better than hers, my grades are about the same as hers, but that something I did wrong let her get in but not me. My school is a "gifted" high school and our graduating class is less than 130 people, and I know of at least twenty of them who applied to Wash U--there were probably even more than that. Everyone is waitlisted except for this one girl--who is by no means the most intelligent or qualified of people who applied there (Not that I am the most intelligent or qualified, but I know this girl isn't). Soooo... I'm just hoping a LOT of people decide not to go to wash u so that I can get in off the waitlist...

I'm not so sure that I'm going to go there so maybe one of you waitlistees can take my spot.

They won't exactly be "taking your spot." Wash. U. accepts a lot of people with the realization that only a fraction will attend....

i am accepted but i wont be able to go there, and i bet there are many more like me. so i think this might be a consolation for those of you on the waitlist.

I was accepted, but Wash U isn't my first choice. As of now, it's between Wash U and UCLA, I'm still waiting to hear from Northwestern, Penn, and Brown. I really like the school, although cost is a factor in my decision and I'll be getting no need-based aid (most likely). I'm trying to justify in my head why I should go to Wash U over UCLA from a cost-benefit perspective, and, so far, I haven't reached any justification.
