Is January SAT too late for college?

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. A couple of the schools I'm applying to (MIT, Columbia SEAS, Princeton engineering) require a science subject test. I actually just took physics this past saturday, but I'm pretty sure I bombed it so I'll most likely be cancelling my score and retaking it in January. Will it be too late? I know that officially, all of these colleges take January scores. But I can't help but think that taking it in January will put me at a disadvantage, since these scores don't come in until mid-February, and surely by that time they'll already have started reviewing apps and making decisions.

If they say they accept January, they accept January. A good score midway through the admissions cycle is much preferable to a crappy score from the get-go.
