Is Lehigh too pre-professional for a liberal arts/languages oriented student?

I am a current high school junior (I repeated after transferring schools this year so I am already well into the college search process_. I am interested in Lehigh and have planned a visit in the spring. In the meantime I am looking to get some insider input on a question that has been bugging me. There are several things about Lehigh that appeal to me such as its size, its campus culture, and its strong job placement record; however, I have gotten the sense that the school it geared more towards it business and engineering schools and the college of arts and sciences is secondary. I am interested in philosophy, economics, and spanish, and I hope to encompass all three in some sort of major/minor combination. Is Lehigh's college of arts and sciences strong enough to merit consideration or should I focus on more traditional liberal art's schools? Also, does anyone know the sat range for the college of arts and sciences? I have a 2110 (730CR 700M 680W), but it's hard to gauge how competitive that makes me when the SAT scores posted for Lehigh include all 3 colleges.

Current freshman here in college of engineering. Keep in mind that Lehigh doesn’t consider the writing score, so at 1430 you are golden. I don’t have the exact stats but a little research on their website will tell the 25/75 percentile scores. I don’t know if there are stats available from each of Lehigh’s schools, but when you apply, you will be considered with all other applicants, regardless of which school you’re interested in. I’m a philosophy minor, and can attest to the quality philosophy department. Here is their website if you’re interested: https://philosophy.cas2.lehigh.edu/</a> There are tons of interesting classes taught by lots of qualified faculty. I don’t know much about the Modern Languages department, but their website is here: https://mll.cas2.lehigh.edu/</a> Economics is a great major taught in a great business program. It’s true that engineering and business are awesome programs here, but the College of Arts and Sciences is super reputable and its students are very talented. Any questions I’d be happy to answer.

It is very pre-professional, but I think you can get a good liberal arts training there. BTW, if you do well on the writing SAT, you might get English credit for it. So, don’t poo poo that one.

While Lehigh is more known for CBE and engineering, people don’t realize that the CAS is a great school with many very passionate and talented professors. One department I can say good things about is the journalism department. Professor Lule is the chair and will meet to talk with any student that has questions about journalism or really anything. He’s very passionate about journalism and global studies and making sure that students find the right fit within the department. I have also taken a few classes in the philosophy department and they have some of the most interesting, weird and smart professors in CAS. (If you decide to come to Lehigh, take a class with Barry Hulsizer, he’s a hoot). Definitely come visit and if you are feeling super outgoing, email a professor or department chair before you come and ask to meet with them to talk about Lehigh and a potential major. The professors in general are super helpful and nice and willing to go out of their way to help their students.
