Is Mountainview really anti-social?

I'm hearing scary things about how it's really anti-social and how people usually just hang out with people in their own suites. Are there not any parties or anything? I'm not a hardcore partier myself but I also don't want to just hang out in my suite all the time.

Like most things, it is what you make of it. If you make the effort to meet others outside of your suite, then no, it won’t be “antisocial.” I have good friends in Mountainview and they made the effort to meet their floor mates (their suite was constantly social and they often held their own parties for their friends/floor).

As far as parties go, you’re not going to find a lot of dorm parties period, simply because most people are underage and are afraid of getting caught. What you will find are private parties for groups of friends (not floor or dorm parties with unknown numbers of guests) and pre-gaming. Most of the large scale parties occur off campus in downtown Binghamton, not in the dorms where the RAs and RD are.

Sherrylol,

As caemin said, life on campus is what you make it. Personally, I love Mountainview. I have made some amazing friends and I can easily say that despite what some people say Mountainview is a very social community. The best advice I can give you is to just get involved. Take advantage of opportunities like Welcome Back Weekend and King of the Mountain to go out and meet people, walk around your hall and introduce yourself to your neighbors, and things will start to click. If you end up in Cascade, come on by room 108 sometime haha.

Hope to see you around!
